ACE FREHLEY TELLS EDDIE TRUNK THAT A KISS REUNION “COULD BE REALLY SPECIAL FOR THE FANS”

On October 9th, Ace Frehley was guest on Eddie’s radio show. Quotes from the interview appear below (as transcribed by blabbermouth.net.

On whether he thinks his renewed friendship with Stanley and Simmons will eventually lead to his return to KISS:

“”Well, Paul and Gene haven’t really talked to me about that. So until I get the phone call, as far as I’m concerned, we’re just having fun and reconnecting for old times’ sake. And if that happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, that’s okay too. I have my own career at this juncture, and those guys… well, they’re working with half a cover band, actually. [Laughs]” He added, that he would be willing to play a one off reunion, stating, “Yeah. I mean, I think it could be great. If it was handled correctly and presented in the right way, I think it could be really special for the fans. It’s a wait-and-see kind of situation, but I’m not holding my breath. I stay busy working on my new studio album in the studio, leaving for Australia this Friday. And we have some shows booked in Texas in December, which will be probably wrapped around some other shows, so I stay busy.”

Gene Simmons told the The Cassius Morris Show, a month ago, that a reunion is “not gonna happen.” He added, “Ace has been in and out of the band three different times. That’s enough…

I still say that a reunion will happen, regardless of what Gene and Paul are saying right now. They both know that the whole KISS train has just about finished it’s run. Gene has already said that it makes no sense to put out new music, since there is no money to be made that way given the state of the industry. The big payday that would come from reuniting with Ace and Peter for a couple final shows (as I’ve stated previously, I want them to reunite with ALL former KISS members for a couple of final shows sans the makeup) will be too much to pass up.

    I will have to correct Ace…the current version of KI$$ isn’t a “cover band”…its’ a “tribute band”! :o)

Gene speaks about not “revisiting the past”. Well, that’s exactly what the current tribute version of KI$$ is doing by wearing the iconic makeup, performing the same stage show, wearing the same costumes (for the most part), playing the same classic era set lists (except for a single song of the newest album nobody wanted to hear anyway), etc…KI$$ is still somewhat relevant today because they always revisit the past!

Ace left the band on his terms. He is in a good place in his life and career. I would love to see him return to KI$$ as the rightful Spaceman. Sadly, as time marches on, I fear it may not happen and fans will never have a chance to see a reunion…and I will never see another KI$$ show (cuz I won’t pay to see this current tribute version of the band)

I believe this “story” is what they call an “evergreen” in journalism. There IS no story – even Ace says as much. All it accomplishes is an avalanche of comments (like mine!) all saying the same tired things. As for Ace’s comments themselves, even IF Gene and Paul suddenly wanted Ace back for some fantastical reason, the fact that he says he’d be willing to do it “if it was handled correctly and presented in the right way” means that they won’t, because what Ace is asking for equal pay/percentage. That ain’t gonna happen!

Now let’s fantasize about how awesome it’s going to be when Eddie Van Halen calls up Sam Hagar and asks him to do a VH Revue Tour, featuring Sam and Dave alternating vocals on their respective songs!….

Nice Dynasty reference Bro. Not a lot of people would go there. But you never disappoint. Shows how much ‘Charisma’ you have.

Thanks, Bro! I try to please. Music always helps to get us through the “Hard Times.” 😉
