ACE FREHLEY TELLS EDDIE TRUNK THAT A KISS REUNION “COULD BE REALLY SPECIAL FOR THE FANS”

On October 9th, Ace Frehley was guest on Eddie’s radio show. Quotes from the interview appear below (as transcribed by blabbermouth.net.

On whether he thinks his renewed friendship with Stanley and Simmons will eventually lead to his return to KISS:

“”Well, Paul and Gene haven’t really talked to me about that. So until I get the phone call, as far as I’m concerned, we’re just having fun and reconnecting for old times’ sake. And if that happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, that’s okay too. I have my own career at this juncture, and those guys… well, they’re working with half a cover band, actually. [Laughs]” He added, that he would be willing to play a one off reunion, stating, “Yeah. I mean, I think it could be great. If it was handled correctly and presented in the right way, I think it could be really special for the fans. It’s a wait-and-see kind of situation, but I’m not holding my breath. I stay busy working on my new studio album in the studio, leaving for Australia this Friday. And we have some shows booked in Texas in December, which will be probably wrapped around some other shows, so I stay busy.”

Gene Simmons told the The Cassius Morris Show, a month ago, that a reunion is “not gonna happen.” He added, “Ace has been in and out of the band three different times. That’s enough…

i love ace too,but unfort ,pauls voice is so bad,i just cant pay the money they want for good seats to hear him sing that way,so as much as it would be cool for a last run with everyone,it would be painful to hear him sing,so i have to say,i would take a big pass on it.i hate to admit it,but i really love going to see the good kiss tributes like KISS ALIVE 75,or kissnation, they look and sound like kiss ,when kiss was in there prime.and for the price of about 50 bucks i can sit or stand right in the front, and get a great looking and sounding show….

Can we give the “Cover Band” and “Tribute Band” nonsense a rest, please? It’s just not accurate at all. You have the two founding members, who wrote 95% of the music and sang 95% of the songs still in the band. So your favorite member isn’t in anymore (of his OWN volition), boo hoo. We’re not talking about Yes (no original members) here, or AC/DC (one original member), or Deep Purple (one original member). We don’t seem to give Judas Priest, or Scorpions, or Def Leppard any crap for having replaced members that couldn’t or wouldn’t cut it anymore, and let’s face it: after the co-headlining tour with Aerosmith, it’s clear Peter can’t cut it (worst performance I’ve ever seen by a member of Kiss; I swear to this day they had someone else playing behind the curtain.)

I agree, Bill. The whole “tribute band” or “cover band” thing is totally overplayed. Let’s face facts here; Gene and Paul wrote the vast majority of the music even when Ace and Peter were in the band! Both Ace and Peter left the band by choice! When they came back for the reunion tours, they were brought back as EMPLOYEES, not equal band members. They both accepted these terms. They both sold the rights to the Spaceman and Catman characters to Gene and Paul by their own choice! And Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer have both now been in the band longer than either Ace or Peter were in the band! As you say, no one was bitching at AC/DC or Deep Purple for having some replacement musicians in the band. The two MOST influential members of the KISS are Gene and Paul, and they are still there. The current version of KISS is NOT a cover or tribute band! It’s a ridiculous statement, and I am sick of hearing it.

bill and keith (who am I writing to, the stones? lol,

even though I disagree, I wanted to try and clarify the “cover band” and “tribute band” comments. it’s more than about replacing original members, as in the case of the other bands bill mentioned. kiss has replaced their original members with replacements dressing up as (or impersonating) the originals. I don’t believe the cover band and tribute band comments were being used prior to 2004, or at least not as often. if current kiss were working “unmasked” or Thayer and singer had their own characters, you wouldn’t have to hear these comments. just trying to help.
