AC/DC RELEASE AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT REGARDING GUITARIST MALCOLM YOUNG’S HEALTH

ac:dc400 Amid all the rumors and speculation of retirement that have floated around the past couple of days, AC/DC have finally released an official statement through their Facebook page:

“After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.

In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music.”

As previously reported, AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson also confirmed that the band will continue to make music and disclosed that a member of the band was battling a debilitating disease.

I love everybody in ac/dc, but I don’t think I could see them without malcolm, kinda be like seeing kiss without ace & peter, just wouldn’t be the same. but, we’ll pray for the best and hopefully malcolm will have a full & speedy recovery, and we’ll all get to see ac/dc one more time, at least!

    • Rich C on

We all want Malcolm Young to recover but this situation is different being health issues. It is not like he is being kicked out of the band for an “imitator”.

    • milkman on

What the f&&k is wrong with you people? You’re seriously lumping drunk and drugged behavior in with a possible stroke. FOR REAL? It is very stupid and irresponsible to make a connection like this. You people hate Gene and Paul so much for keeping KISS alive (a pun) for so long that you’re going to align drug abuse and bad behavior with a stroke.

    • Roland on

Having read some of your past comments on this site makes me come to the conclusion that you have some serious issues. Get help please before you kill someone!

    • doug r. on

are you serious? what was wrong with what I said? all I said was it wouldn’t be the same seeing ac/dc without Malcolm, like seeing kiss without ace & peter, or van halen without Michael Anthony, so what’s so bad about that? I think some of YOU people here have some serious issues, especially if you can misunderstand a simple little innocent comment. I know Malcolm’s situation is all health related, just making a observation about the future of ac/dc is all, GET WELL SOON MALCOLM!

    • doug r. on

by the way, anybody see the comment below by Andrew? what’s the difference between his post & mine?

    • Richman on

GO MILK GO! I’ve been defending Gene and Paul for years now and saying all along “Who wants to work wiith drunks and druggies?”but all of these bloggers defend Ace, Peter and now Jake E. Lee as if they were UNICEF volunteers or war veterans. BLESS YOU AND YOUR POSITIVE MESSAGE. P.S. ROLAND did copy your existential rockers comment.

This is gene Simmons of kiss!!! I just want you to know without kiss there would be no ac/dc…. Please check out kiss.com for all your merchandise needs.

    • S.Falls \m/ on

Yeah, cuz Malcom never smoked, drank, or did drugs. Not saying that Malcom’s health issue relates ot nay of the forementioned, just SICK & TIRED of the BASHING of ANY rock star who had some kind of vice issues in the past or now.
Some people seem to never be able to let it rest and sure as hell LOVE to cast stones.
      Unreal!

  • E BLACK on

Most likely his nephew will step in again.
This is it, boys. The last ride on the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Train’ ALL ABOARD!

    FOR MALCOLM!

  • james perkins on

They’ve got 1 album/tour left in them & maybe one after that. I’m sure Malcom will give them his blessing to continue. I saw them in ’88 w/ the cousin filling in for Malcom & the show came off great. It comes down to songs. Since they have a catalog full of classics, the new record doesn’t mean a whole lot. Black Ice had it’s moments, but the gas ran out as far as classic albums after Blow Up Your Video; everything since has been uneven to very uneven quality wise. However, the shows still rock & the money & crowds are still there. Only Angus & maybe Brian’s illness would mean an actual retirement given the many millions still in play.

    • Robert on

So you don’t like The Razor’s Edge? That’s my favorite album.

As far as Malcom goes, I wonder if it’s ALS or cancer.

    • milkman on

Money that Malcolm could use going forward with health care costs. Keep it going. It is great music and it deserves an audience unless you’re DOUG R. who finds sinister motives in people making money.

    • doug r. on

are you insane? there’s nothing wrong with making money, the more the merrier, I have no problem with gene & paul making all the money they want, the only problem I have had with them lately is some of the comments they have made, that’s all. I hope whatever the health issues with Malcolm are, are minimal & nothing serious of course, but I’m also sure whatever it is he’ll be fine financially one way or another regardless if ac/dc continues on or not, which of course I hope they do, but either way I like all ac/dc fans just hope for the best for Malcolm. now go drink some milk, it does a body good, and hopefully in your case it’ll do some good for your brain too!

    • DR on

I think we’ve had our share of KISS posts over the past month. So why drag it into another band’s news? And we’ve all had more than our share of your posts. Not surprising to see your superior level of ignorance doesn’t just end at KISS.

    • Dana on

      Agreed, DR.

Please try and stick to the topic and the news that the band is actually about, thank you.

      Dana πŸ™‚

    • doug r. on

HEY DR & DANA, WHY DON’T YOU TWO NOBODY’S MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS?? I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DEFEND MYSELF AND THAT’S WHAT I WAS DOING! MY REPLY WAS FOR THE “MILKMAN”. SO I SUPPOSE NOBODY ELSE EVER BROUGHT UP ANOTHER BAND WHILE TALKING ABOUT A BAND, I’M NOT SURPRISED BY THAT IDIOT DR’S COMMENTS, BUT I’M REALLY SURPRISED AT YOUR REACTION HERE DANA, LOOK AT ALL THE POSTS, I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO BROUGHT UP KISS IN AC/DC NEWS, AND I ONLY DID IT TO MAKE A POINT, SOMETHING I DON’T EXPECT DR TO COMPREHEND, BUT LIKE I SAID I’M SURPRISED AT YOUR RESPONSE DANA, I USUALLY AGREE WITH ALL YOUR POSTS, AND I’VE EVEN DEFENDED YOU BEFORE, OH WELL, HAVE FUN READING DR’S UNINTELLIGENT POSTS!

    • Dana on

      HEY DOUG,

WHY DON’T YOU STOP YELLING VIA CAPS? IT MAKES YOU LOOK ANGRY AND SOMEWHAT FOOLISH.

I apologize if it seems like I was picking on you, that was not my intention.

You are correct many bands have been brought up on other bands threads, it is just that I am just so over this KISS nonsense. Again, I am truly sorry that it was it your expense. Now, please sit down, relax and have a beer πŸ™‚

      Cheers,
      Dana πŸ™‚

    • doug r. on

1 more thing for dana, you’re actually agreeing with somebody who doesn’t know how to DISAGREE with somebody without being insulting, I thought this site was for adults, guess I was wrong.

    • doug r. on

dear dana, I’m not angry or foolish, although sometimes I get a little upset reading some of these posts, that’s called being human. how does using CAPS make you look somewhat foolish? isn’t that a insult? I thought you were different than the dr’s around here. I usually skip posts from certain people like dr, cause their just a waste of time, but when he responds to a post that wasn’t about him and then personally attacks & insults me, YEAH, I’M GONNA GET A LITTLE PISSED! if using caps makes you look foolish, then I guess there’s a lot of fools around here cause everybody uses them sometimes. anyway, you’re right, a beer sounds really good right about now, a beer & back in black, i’ll have one for you & malcolm, CHEERS!

    • Dana on

Again sorry, I just meant it appears that one is angry over something somewhat minor, maybe not to you, but in the grand scheme of life. I think caps should be reserved for real issues that are inflammatory prejudice, hatred, abuse, etc. Even in those cases, I find having an even keeled demeanor carries the most weight when making a point, especially if someone personally attacks you. Ever hear the phrase kill them with kindness? Or in some cases apathy πŸ™‚

A beer and Black In Black? Enjoy! πŸ™‚

    • doug r. on

hey dana, sorry for referring to you as a nobody earlier, that was really just for dr, it was just an overreaction on my part seeing you agree with him. I’m sure you can clearly see there was nothing wrong with my comments about Malcolm & ac/dc, who I love as much as kiss, aerosmith, van halen & so on. others have made the same observations as I did, about seeing one of their favorites without a particular member, but for some reason my comment got twisted into the wrong conversation. anyway, alot of us might disagree on some bands & their members, but I think we all have 1 thing in common, we all love rock & metal, right? back to the music, fly on the wall sounds pretty good right now.

    • Dana on

No worries Doug πŸ™‚ It’s all good.

I was really only agreeing with DR’s statement about KISS. I have been dealing with the fans slugging it out on this site for weeks and on top of that some rather rude and racist remarks that I had to delete. So, seeing someone say enough with the KISS comments, my knee jerk reaction was to agree with that statement. Personally, I have had enough with all mudslinging from the members of KISS in the press and from the fans on this site. I cannot wait for the peace and zen to return…Ohm…LOL!!

Also, we are in agreement about AC/DC. They are one of the best πŸ™‚

    • doug r. on

absolutely, the last time I seen ac/dc back in 2000 at MSG, it was one of, if not the best concert I have ever seen & experienced in my life! what a great feeling I had during and after the concert, here we are 14 years later & I’m still feeling good from that show! wow, it’s awesome watching them on dvd but there’s nothing like watching them live & in person. back in 2004 I seen sammy hagar & the waboritas at the Borgata in atlantic city, that’s another concert i’ll never forget, one of the best times of my life, but that ac/dc concert at MSG in 2000, that was one of those nights you never want to end, thunderstruck!

    • Dana on

Yes, I saw them (as I previously stated) for the first time, I am embarrassed to say, on the Black Ice tour. Just watching Angus for two plus hours, not including is solo, my mouth was agape. I have no idea where he gets the energy and stamina. Just unbelievable! I am so glad that I went when I did. I really hope Malcolm will be okay.

      D πŸ™‚

    • doug r. on

yeah, unfortunately I missed the black ice tour, but like I said that show back in 2000 at MSG, was a highlight of my life. angus is amazing, he can make you dizzy sometimes watching him run around! I too hope malcolm will be okay, for him, his family, friends & us fans, I would love to see malcolm, angus, brian, cliff & phil one more time. never can get enough of that high voltage rock & roll!

    • Dana on

      Agreed!

  • Ivan on

A sobering thought indeed. This band is the real deal LIVE. This will be one not to miss.
    All the best Malcolm.

    • Kevin on

I agree totally Ivan. There’s some really great new hard rock and metal out there these days but no one brings it live like ac/dc. Billy Joel recently said in a concert at Madison Square Garden in which he brought Brian up to sing You shook me all night long that acdc are the greatest live rock and roll band he’s ever seen. Some of the newer bands would be wise to buy the library of acdc live DVDs and study them. They are a working mans rock and roll band. Even now in in their late 50s and 60 s there’s no one better live. Please get well Malcolm and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  • Andrew on

God speed Malcolm. It would be like seeing the Stones without Keith
