4/26: THAT METAL SHOW UPDATE, FASTER PUSSYCAT, SLAUGHTER, BLITZ, BVB AND MORE.

Amazing response again to last nights new That Metal Show with Ace Frehley, Mark Farner and Nita Strauss. Ace was hysterical as always and was cool seeing him Rank his Kiss albums. So many people loved Mark Farner as well. Really cool to see how the TMS audience has really embraced all the variety in this season. From new, to classic, to rock, hard rock and metal, we have featured it all and had more first time guests than ever and it’s been great. Two more shows to tape in our current season the next two Tuesday’s. This week it’s first time guests Mark Slaughter and from Black Veil Brides Andy Biersack, and from Faster Pussycat Taime Downe. On guitar for the first time Mike Orlando from Adrenaline Mob. That airs this Saturday. Then our season finale will feature Joe Elliott (unaired interview from when he joined us for our debut with Geddy Lee), Frankie Banali from Quiet Riot and Bobby Blitz from Overkill. Joining us on bass the return of the master Billy Sheehan! Also a good chance former Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing will Skype in on one of these final two shows! Two more weeks of new shows in what’s been a killer season. Thanks for watching. Replays all week on VH1C and see it online at www.thatmetalshow.vh1.com

Back live on SiriusXM tomorrow 6-10P ET on channel 39 TRUNKNation. In studio guests will include Faster Pussycat and Mark Slaughter.

I’ll be hosting M3 once again this coming weekend in MD. Tickets are still available. Congrats to all my winners here online in ET’s Box Office. I will be selling and signing books for an hour or so on Saturday. Follow my Twitter or listen for me to announce from the stage when I will be out on the grounds at the Chuck Levins Washington Music Center booth that will host me once again. Exact times TBA but it will be sometime Saturday later in the day likely. Both books will be available for purchase there as well and all merch stands will have my latest line of T Shirts available.

Good TMS with Farner and Ace. The only reservation is that I thought it was kind of a lost opportunity to ask about Grand Funk’s contribution to hard rock / heavy metal. Everyone knows about the British Bands, but there were American bands that were precursors to some of the bigger hard rock / metal bands as well. As an aside, I was really impressed when I first saw Mark Farner live about four years back and again the next year. He still sounds and plays great. I view him kinda like John Fogerty – a band tours under (or close) to the original name of the band – but, if you have a choice, it’s really the “main guy” you want to see. Mark is that main guy.

Agree with Joshua. Grand Funk were a huge power trio along the lines of Mountain (listen to their live album) before they had hit singles. Ed, you should have asked Mark how he felt about being the archetype for metal front men (bare chest, long blonde hair) he was copied by Jim Dandy Manrum, who was copied by David Lee Roth who was copied by Brett Michaels, Vince Neil, ad nauseam-is he proud? embarrassed? or does he think they owe him a franchise fee?

P.S. Dana-Chris Isaak had a great music/talk show that just had him talking in depth with one artist for an hour. Hope Eddie can get a spin-off that’s like that!

GFR were simply one of the greatest bands of all time. Their concerts made you get up and boogie.

Really enjoyed last night’s TMS. Always love it when classic rock is highlighted and Grand Fund and KISS is about as classic rock as it gets. I also really enjoyed being introduced, at least for me, to Nita Strauss. Really cool to see the expression on Mark Farner’s face when you were going to commercial one time as he was watching her absolutely shred the guitar. As I’ve said before, really love the variety that this season has had. Great job. Just curious if you may be possibly thinking of a Volume III to your Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal books? I really enjoyed the first two. Loved reading about the bands that I was very familiar with and also learning about other bands and artists that I had heard of but didn’t really follow. Thanks again for the great shows!

The latest TMS with Ace, Mark and Nita is now my favorite episode so far this season. Mark Farner is a true rock hero. SIN’S A GOOD MAN’S BROTHER is one of the very first guitar riffs I ever learned to play. This season has had so much variety, it’s been amazing! But I’ll admit this is the episode I’ve been waiting for. Ace is ALWAYS a riot, so I knew he’d be great. But Mark was ever bit as cool as Ace. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed Mark looks EXACTLY like a younger, rocker version of Hugh Hefner? Nita has now officially gained a new fan: ME! Ace ranking the Kiss albums was great. Although his number 2 favorite is my number 1, I understand why he picked Kiss’ debut as his favorite.

It’s such a bummer that this season is almost over. If KK checks in on Skype, that will he a great way to end a great season.

KK this Saturday is all goes well with Skype! Thanks!

Eddie, whats your thoughts on the retirement of vin scelsa? After almost 50 years on ny radio?. I know your not really in that old school of free form back in the day radio guys like him and like scott muni, pete fornatele etc. But at ur age (No offense lol) and 30 + years you def deserve great respect for that. Do you think a guy like you or vin doing a music theme based show is something thats gone away? Like you might be kinda the last breed ? I dont get a good feeeling that thiers another generation of young djs looking or being bred to do this kinda stuff.

I couldn’t believe Ace ranked RARO so low. My god, that album is a juggernaut. The fact that he doesn’t remember recording it kills me lol…because it has some of his greatest lead work!

    Eddie,
I watched the past two weeks’ episodes yesterday. I believe I was one of the ones earlier this year confused/disappointed by the guest list for the season. I publicly issue a mea culpa!! I think it was really brilliant how you made this all work. EVERY show was interesting. For example, I have zero interest in Grand Funk Railroad. Yet, the guy was very interesting and entertaining. And he had some great stories. I think that’s happened on every single episode so far.

I also think it’s cool you’ve been showcasing some new talent on the guitar stage. Nita Strauss? Hadn’t heard of her until she was announced as Cooper’s new guitarist last year. And she was great! How many new fans does she have today because of you? A lot, I’m sure.

Really amazing job this season. Thank you.

I’m regretting not trying to get tickets to a show (I’m only an hour away in CT).

Check out GFR’s live “Caught in the Act,” and you’ll hear their greatness. Yeah, today they are a dated band, but they had a really cool vibe back in the day. “We’re an American Band,” is arguably one of the premiere rock anthems of all time. Loved Nita as guest guitarist, she was fantastic. Ace is Ace, a little loopy but always fun. Great show!

    • D. Comiskey on

Yeah, Ace is like the crazy old grandpa at the table now. But still fun.

  • Doug R. on

Ace, Mark, Nita, thanks for making this TMS episode one of, if not the best one so far. Looking forward to Nita’s album coming out, by 2040? LOL! Best “new” guitarist I’ve heard in a long time.
