Hey Eddie, does Headbanger taste as good as it looks?

With regards to the quality of guests, beggars can’t be choosers. I’m sure we all want Eddie Van Halen, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmy Page, et al. However none of the above want to do TMS, no matter how many times Eddie asks (or begs). I’m not a fan of recycled guests (i.e. Zakk Wylde), but you have to fill up the slots with someone, so you take who you can get. So far the TMS episodes have been entertaining. But I would like to ask Eddie if consideration has been given to using the Metal Modem as an extended segment (instead of two minutes) for guests who are willing to do TMS but cannot physically be in the studio.

Another issue for me is that one hour of TMS in reality is only between 42-45 minutes when you subtract the time needed for commercials and station plugs. And in that short 42-45 minutes of allocated time you have segments such as Take It or Leave It, Top 5 Whatever, Put It On the Table, ranking albums from favorite to least, plugging CDs, books, whatever, Metal Modem, The Throwdown, and of course Stump the Trunk. After all that, how much time is really left over for interviewing guests, especially when you have up to three guests at the same time? That’s what my issue with TMS is. Too many segments, too many plugs, too many guests. If you just focused on one guest per episode, you’ll have more time to actually interview them. Trying to do too much with too little.

Good points…it seems like they are sometimes stuffing too much into the show and the intervuew takes a backseat to the other stuff…

The show is only half the show, watch all the extras, which have been fantastic.

I have to say, on last week’s TMS I was rolling in the aisles at Jim’s joke about Bill Cosby. Didn’t see that coming. Hilarious! I’d like to see more jokes from Jim, he really is funny and has a delivery that is original to him. Also, I know it probably won’t happen, but I’d love to see a TMS dedicated solely to the originators of glam rock. Get surviving members of Sweet, guys from Slade, Marc Bolan’s son Rolan, Roy Wood, etc. Slade was the first band since The Beatles to have a slew of top 20 hits, they were untouchable in their day. They influenced Kiss, AC/DC, Devo, 80’s glam metal, etc. SO, so important. A lot more important that the latest solo project by some guitarist that plays like an angry bee. Just an idea.

I read these comments and I shake my head….first, I’ll reiterate, the extras have been great, and they are there for you to watch, they more than make up for the half show that is broadcast…Second, guys, the metal scene is not what it was in the 80s, there is never going to be that excitement about the music and the bands like there was, to expect Eddie to conjure up some kind of buzz about metal like there was is asking too much. In the criticism of the show, I see this being the latent reason. You guys are expecting the return of Headbanger’s Ball and that’s just never going to happen no matter if you got the metal god himself (there, I said it) to host the show every week. Third, I don’t think the fame of the guests is the issue, Eddie Van Halen is not a great interview, Sammy, on the other hand, is a great interview. Maybe stop measuring the guests in terms of their fame, and instead focus on there being a good interview…(you have to watch the extras) ..Really famous people usually just give the stock answers anyway. Of course, Page would be a great catch, then Ed can puff up his chest and tell the other guests that won’t come on that he will get back to them, if he’s not too busy…lol…
