10/28: PRIEST IN FL THIS WEEK, JOE PERRY THIS WEEKEND, JERICHO PODCAST, MORE

Off the Florida for a couple days to host Judas Priest at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood FL Thursday night. I’ve had some great times recently hosting many shows at this venue, always a blast in S Florida! Tickets are available right up till showtime so if in that area of the country hope to see you. After the show I’ll be at the Hard Rock Cafe inside the casino selling and signing both of my books. Come by and say hello right after Priest wraps up. Follow on Twitter @EddieTrunk for up to the second photos and updates. Excited to finally see the Metal Gods on this tour!

Speaking of Priest had a great chat with Glenn Tipton on my SiriusXM show last night. Glenn was very happy about how things are going but also was unsure how much longer Priest would continue before they retire. He did say it was unlikely they would do a farewell tour or even show at this point. More likely just quietly wind down. But still plenty of shows still to come so don’t miss these legends. The greats are getting up there and nobody knows how many years they have to go.

My FM radio show this weekend features an entire middle hour with music from Aerosmith and excerpts from my recent interview with Joe Perry from his book launch.

All new podcast posts this Thursday on Itunes and at www.podcastone.com with Chris Jericho and Rich Ward as the guests.

Happy Halloween all. I’ll be back Friday night to take my kids trick or treating. Be safe and follow on Twitter and FB for more updates before then.

  1. Eddie, guess u forgot. Priest did a farewell tour yrs ago. It was called Epitaph. So what is this one? Maybe the “We fooled u again stupid Mfers tour?” BTW, Not only can he NOT sing anymore, Halford can barely stand up for the whole show. The has beens need to go away very quietly.

    1. geez where to start? epitaph was the last WORLD tour, learn to research… redding iz harhd i no… the only “stupid Mfer” is you if you think Halford cant sing anymore (although you probably refer to your one favorite song painkiller) which he can do just fine…you do know live and cd and 25 years will make things sound a bit different right? I just saw them in Jersey and he had no problem standing up the whole time, he had back surgery in between the tours dummy, he was extremely energetic and pumped up, and while we all had lost our voices singing along, good ol 63 year old halford was still belting it out. never hit an off note by the way. your metal fandom “has been” revoked.

    2. Great points on Halford…he was in a freakin wheelchair for a while after that surgery, so gimme a break Wood

    3. You research lame: Epitaph was billed as a FAREWELL TOUR! I know halford can’t sing anymore. So keep spending on the has beens.

    4. CJ, I refer you to next Trunk Report of 11/1! “Priest annouced their retirement” with Epitaph tour you SMF!

    5. Look…Wood, i’ll be nice and say… you have no idea what you’re talking about. Halford was dealing with some health issues at that time!
I just saw Priest from 2nd row at Barclays 2 weeks ago, and Halford was amazing. You obviously have not been following the ongoings with Priest, they fully admit to being rejuvinated, and if you don’t welcome that news,… then youre not a fan.

    6. Wood, stop with the crack smoking. Have you even seen the shows this tour? I’ve seen three this month. And, quite frankly, Rob hasn’t been in this good of shape in 14 years. Why don’t you take a look online and look up a video for Devil’s Child from this tour and tell me he can barely move or sing. Watch Beyond the Realms of Death or Sinner and tell me he can’t sing anymore.

      You’re full of s–t.

BTW, you can look up to what they said before Epitaph. They CLEALRY said it was their final WORLD TOUR. They said they would likely play smaller tours, but no more 2-year, around the world treks. In case you missed all of the quotes the past year (clearly you have), they stated several times that when KK was still in the band, they thought that WAS the end. They didn’t anticipate what Richie would bring to the table that revitalized them.

    7. That’s what they said later on after they changed it up. Originally CLEARLY BILLED AS FAREWELL TOUR.LAME

    8. Actually, this wood is right; It was originally announced as a farewell tour then Priest changed it to last world tour. Dana correctly points this out as she placed wood in the penalty box.

    9. Yeah look it up on next Trunk report stupid. Retirement tour, straight from rhe horses mouth SMFer

  2. I read Joe Perry’s name a lot in your posts as of late…. Hmmm, I think he’ll be a guest on TMS next season.Hopefully!! Since I haven’t been in a band touring the world for over 40 years, I cannot make a valid comment as to why Priest would or would not do a farewell tour, whether it’s called “Epitaph” or “Keep your stupid uneducated comments about whether the singer can hit notes or stand up on stage” to yourself World Tour. These are business decisions ran by a business machine, and I for one love Priest and respect their BUSINESS decision whatever it may be.

  3. I’m not going to be that strong about it, but Priest was very underwhelming when I saw them. They looked like they were going through the motions. Whether you like their music or not, Steel Panther blew them off the stage!

    1. Sadly, Glenn isn’t what he used to be. It kills me. I am still bummed about what I saw. Russ could handle that material no problem. Don’t forget, he did the first Fight album and tour. The dude knows his sh*t. But – and I suppose I’m being hypocritical here – I could never accept Priest without Glenn Tipton. Musically, KK was never on Glenn’s level. So, Richie fit in well. But there is NO replacement for Mr. Tipton. Ever.

    2. Without Glenn there is no Priest. He is the man behind Priest’s sound. I caught the show in Detroit and the music was fantastic, but none of the guys move around like they did in the 80’s or during the Pain Killer tour. Heck they are in their 60’s and pushing 70, no real Priest fan should expect them to be like they were in their 40’s. As far as Steel Panther? Totally disappointed. Loved Priest’s set, they sounded great.

    3. DC, Couldnt disagree more. U r totally confused about KK and Glenn.Obviously you don’t know the history of either. KK hired Tipton and was very patient with young Tipton who struggled for years comprehending Professor Downing’s teachings. Tipton would be the 1st to tell you that he owes his career to Mr Downing. Please do your research son.

    4. I was at the Foxwoods show and I have to agree. Steel panther was on fire; the only fire with priest was on the screens behind them. Don’t get me wrong, they are the metal gods, but they are getting old. It’s understandable. Rob did scream his balls off, though.

    5. DC, The general consensus here is that you are trippin. You accuse others of smoking crack and being full of it but you actually sound like one of those guys that starts drinkin 10 am day of the show, puke your brains out b4 you go in then swear up n down it was the greatest show of all time. Even though you passed out during the opening act. Sober up little man, then you might actually catch a show.

    6. I couldn’t care less. And why do you keep making new screen names? Maybe your mommy and daddy need to take away your iPad for a while.

    7. Sounds like Jason was the only one not on crackrock. Priest plays the exact same show every night and can’t wait to get out of there.

  4. First of all, every post I’ve seen thus far by “Wood” has been a bunch of idiotic, insulting, incendiary comments. I think he (or she) only posts here to stir up arguments. Even if there IS a shred of truth to them, they’re presented in an overblown and abrasive manner.

Regretfully I missed Priest this time around. I’ve had to settle for videos people have posted. Overall I’d say Rob’s doing alright! No, he’s not killing it like when I saw them on the Painkiller tour – but his voice is still strong and full of character. Rob’s not just a screamer folks, he’s an honest to goodness SINGER. Maybe he stalks the stage a little slower these days, but he’s still getting it done. Honestly sometimes I do think there’s an element of “going through the motions”. Some of these songs have been played probably every gig Priest has played for the last 30+ years, so I guess to them some of it has got to be “the same old thing” and the routine maybe isn’t as convincing as it once was. I also think some of it is 3/5ths of the band are over 60 and some nights are better than others, they’re human. Biggest difference I see? Glenn is far less animated this time around, he’s not his classic “headbanging” self. Ritchie (who is proving himself to be an absolute monster guitar player) appears to be taking the lion’s share of the soloing duties, and appears more “into it” (and of course he’s around 30 years younger!). Are you kidding? If I was in his shoes and looked over my shoulder every gig and saw those guys standing next to me, and got to play those songs, I’d give it everything I had too! From what I’ve seen, and yes maybe giving some concessions to age, Priest is still “Delivering the Goods”.

As for the eventual last hurrah, even if there’s no chance I could attend I would welcome a final show. Do it in London or something, bring K.K. back for one last time, he and Ritchie could trade songs. Hell even bring out Ripper and do a couple from his albums. They might not be considered Priest classics, but they had some good songs and took some risks. Capture it on film for all time, one last celebration of Judas Priest, unlike any show they’ve ever done.

    1. Clown: KK was the only one with brains enough to step off gracefully. He would never come back.LOL

    2. Really? Let’s see how many other people around here think I’m the clown vs you. Yes, Priest is losing steam. But they’re not dead yet. Are you happy now? Actually I don’t give a s–t if you’re happy.

    3. Actually you both would get a lot of votes. Priest is definitely a huge influence on the metal scene. But clearly are not what they were. Wood was right about KK leaving at the right time.Halford def needs to retire.

    4. Look, let me make something clear. When I mentioned KK coming back I was talking about a hypothetical LAST Priest show. I didn’t say a tour or rejoining the band on a permanent basis. He’s gone, and I respect his decision. I don’t think it’s a wildly outlandish idea to think that MAYBE he would come back, for at least a few songs, for the last Judas Priest show to ever be performed. If you’ve read my posts on this site you should realize I don’t normally jump in slinging insults to people and calling them names, but I guess that’s just what a lot of you do around here.

  5. PRIEST were amazing in Allentown and Baltimore..just amazing. I’ve been lucky enough to have seen them many many times over the years and Rob still sings and commands a crowd like no other. (and certainly didn’t have an issue moving around on stage). There will never be another like him or the chemistry they create while together so enjoy while you can. The ROS material is fantastic live and flows well with classics. Like most, just thankful we have the opportunity to still see them on tour. Hopefully they will continue for some time to come.
