10/1: JOE PERRY’S BOOK AND NEXT WEEKS LIVE PODCAST LAUNCH & INTERVIEW

Just finished Joe Perry’s book which comes out this Tuesday called “Rocks”. As many know Aerosmith was one of my very first ever favorite bands. I grew up with the Live Bootleg poster on my wall as a kid. To me they are still the best of the bands from that era by far because they all play as well as ever, they are all original, and their music is timeless. I have said many times it is remarkable what this band does still at this age on stage more than 40n years after they formed. But the Aerosmith story is loaded with drama (like many bands), some known well, some not. Joe’s book takes us on that journey brilliantly through the bands, as well as his own personal ups and downs. The book is so well written and it really has a way of putting you right in the room with whatever is happening. Credit to Joe and his writer David Ritz on that. While many will no doubt focus in on the very complex relationship between Joe and Steven (which is a good part of the book), and the years of drug abuse, there is so much more to take in. The reviews will no doubt focus on the barbs that Joe tosses Steven’s way because everyone loves drama, but there is just as much of a common bond and brotherhood between these guys as you will find out if you read it. Joe also voices his respect for Brad, Joey and Tom many times, very much the unsung heroes of this iconic band. I also loved reading about Joe’s time out of the band and the Joe Perry Project years. I am a huge fan of that bands 1980 debut album. Joe also talks about his love of the blues greats as well as bands he came up in the 70’s with like Kiss, Cheap Trick, ZZ Top and more. It truly is a great rock n roll read! Joe will be live in studio with me this Monday on my SiriusXM show after he appears on Jimmy Fallon. I am super honored that he has asked me to host his book launch this Tuesday at Barnes & Noble in Union Sq NYC. So much I can’t wait to discuss! The B&N event is open to the public but first come first served as far as capacity (the store will also have stock of both of my books on hand if you are interested). The conversation will also be recorded and posted next Thursday as my first ever podcast with a live audience. Audience questions will be welcome. After the interview Joe will sit and sign his book which is available for the first time that day. As usual I suggest the physical format for the book. It is loaded with great photos and a nice hard cover design. Can’t wait for next week to spend a couple of days with a true icon from one of my all time favorite bands!

  1. Hey Eddie, love Joe Perry & Aerosmith, but I have a quick question about Led Zeppelin. Why wasn’t the song “Houses Of The Holy”, on the album HOTH? It was recorded in 1972, along with the rest of the songs that were on that album, but for some reason, it didn’t make that album, but instead ended up on Physical Graffiti. It might have been discussed before, but unfortunately I must have missed that discussion, because after all these years, I still don’t know. So I just figured if anybody might know the answer, it might be you.

    1. Sorry don’t know but not the first time that’s happened. The Def Lep song On Through The Night is on High n Dry, not On Through The Night!

    2. Yeah I always wondered about that. HOTH is a great album, but IMO, if the song ‘Houses Of The Holy” was on the album, in between “Over The Hills And Far Away”, and “Dancing Days”, instead of “The Crunge”, HOTH would be as good as Led Zeppelin II & IV! Just my opinion.

    3. They decided not to include it on the album, and instead put it on Physical Graffiti when that project grew to be a double-album. Some other tracks from those sessions ended up on PG as well.

    4. What I always wanted to know though was why? The title track not making it on to the album itself. That would almost be like Aerosmith holding back Toys In The Attic, and saving it for “Rocks”, “Houses Of The Holy” was recorded for the album, so why did they not include it on the album it was originally recorded for?

    5. Rock and roll used to be about mystique, and creating a synthesis throughout a body of work by displacing title tracks as a way to create an entire body of work is a good methodology…..maybe a Tolkienesque inspiration…..Page probably was in his blacked out room with the candles throwing dice deciding which songs went where…mystique, see what I mean? There was a movement in art wherein people would throw dice to make random applications, then they noticed that random applications stopped being random after awhile…I don’t think it was meant to be a source of consternation among the fans Doug R, I really don’t, but I get what you’re saying, Double Vision wouldn’t have been so hot if it had been on Head Games or Four…But then Foreigner was a different experience than Led Zeppelin who I am guessing wanted to invent their own rules….Doug R I hope my explanation has been adequate and is to your satisfaction.

  2. Eddie, I saw you playing air guitar while you were sitting on the stage while Aerosmith rocked “The Rock” on September 3. I don’t blame you as I was jammin’, too. Terrie Carr and WDHA Radio spoiled us with a meet and greet with Steven and Joe and ninth row seats next to the catwalk for me being the 105th caller. I am looking forward to reading Joe Perry’s book next week. Aerosmith has been one of my favorites since their first album; and I have seen them many times. The time before this one was on Carol Miller and Q 104.3 at the PNC Bank Arts Center. The “Bad Boys from Boston” are badder than ever!

  3. Thanks for the review Eddie, looking forward to your podcast!!! Joe’s not doing any signings in Florida, so had to order a copy…..Was great briefly chatting with you at the Hollywood HR at the Experience Hendrix show, I’m the one covered in Aerosmith signature tattoo’s who was sitting behind you…Have a great time with Mr. Joe “Fucking” Perry!!

    1. That show is not and has not been a live broadcast for over 3 months. It will only be live for special events. It HAD to change to stay on the radio and have it on all stations the same weekend.
