2022 POTENTIAL ROCK HALL INDUCTEE LIST ANNOUNCED, JUDAS PRIEST NOMINATED ONCE AGAIN

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame announced today the following nominees for 2022 induction:

Beck
Pat Benatar
Kate Bush
Devo
Duran Duran
Eminem
Eurythmics
Judas Priest
Fela Kuti
MC5
New York Dolls
Dolly Parton
Rage Against The Machine
Lionel Richie
Carly Simon
A Tribe Called Quest
Dionne Warwick

Judas Priest was previously on the ballot for Rock Hall induction in 2020, but failed to receive enough votes to make that year’s class.

Having been eligible for induction since 1999, the band was also on the ballot for the 2018 class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, but was ultimately left out of the inductee list.

Once again, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has named the individual band members that will enter should their group get inducted.

For Judas Priest they picked current members Rob Halford (vocals), Ian Hill (bass), Glenn Tipton (guitar) and Scott Travis (drums), along with former members K.K. Downing (guitar), Les Binks (drums) and late drummer Dave Holland.

The New York Dolls members selected were singer David Johansen, bassist Arthur “Killer” Kane, drummer Billy Murcia, drummer Jerry Nolan, bassist Sylvain Sylvain and guitarist Johnny Thunders.

The MC5 lineup of bassist Michael Davis, guitarist/singer Wayne Kramer, guitarist/singer Fred “Sonic” Smith, drummer Dennis Thompson and singer Rob Tyner was picked.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Seven out of 17 of the nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Beck, Eminem, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon and A Tribe Called Quest. This is Eminem’s first year of eligibility.

“This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture”, said John Sykes, chairman of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Foundation. “Their music not only moved generations but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed.”

Nominee ballots are sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry. Factors such as an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation, and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame offers fans the opportunity to participate in the induction selection process with the 2022 Induction Fan Vote sponsored by Ohio. Today through April 29th, fans can vote every day at rockhall.com or at the museum in Cleveland. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to select the 2022 inductees.

Inductees will be announced in May 2022. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2022 induction ceremony will take place this fall. The date, venue, and on-sale information will be announced later.

Even though artists are eligible for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single, iconic hard rock and metal bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Mötorhead have yet to be recognized by the institution, which inducted Guns N’ Roses in that group’s first year of eligibility.

Eligible for induction since 1999, KISS didn’t get its first nomination until 2009, and was finally inducted in 2014.

Deep Purple was eligible for the Rock Hall since 1993 but didn’t get inducted until 2016.

The Rock Hall didn’t induct Black Sabbath until 2006, and Metallica followed three years later.

From this list – PAT BENATAR, DURAN DURAN, JUDAS PRIEST, DOLLY PARTON, and LIONEL RICHIE, and that’s it! NO RATM (worst band ever) and definitely NO MORE RAPPERS! Especially that Enemaman or whatever the hell his name is! The HOF sucks enough already as it is!

Benatar, Duran Duran, Priest, Parton, and Richie should’ve ALL been in already a long time ago, so stop the bullsh-t and put them in already!!

As usual, with the exception of the mighty Priest, RATM, and maybe Pat Benatar, this list is poop.

While I like Duran Duran, I would not consider them a rock band, in the traditional sense. They are more of a new wave/electronica/pop band. The New York Dolls? Meh, but I guess they are far more applicable than most on this list.

Lionel Richie? Dionne Warwick? A Tribe Called Quest? Eminem? Carly Simon? LOL!!

As for RATM, I don’t like them at all, but they are a rock band. However, they do not deserve to be in before Priest, Maiden, Mötorhead, etc..

Duran Duran isn’t rock, but neither is more than half of the “artists” in there, especially those rappers (eye roll) As far as RATM, I wouldn’t call them rock either, I wouldn’t call them anything except SH-T!! They’re just a sh-t band plain and simple and that’s all they are. Pat Benatar 100% deserves to be in, should’ve been in years ago, years ago! Same goes for Lionel Richie, great career with The Commodores and as a solo artist as well, “Running With The Night” is 1 if my favorite songs of all time, and Steve Lukather’s solo is absolutely amazing!

      Doug,

I don’t like RATM at all, but to say they are not a rock band, is simply not true. After Priest, they are, sadly, the second hardest rock band on this list.

Also, if you read what I wrote the first time, and I even bolded it was: “As for RATM, I don’t like them at all, but they are a rock band. However, they do not deserve to be in before Priest, Maiden, Mötorhead, etc..” By the way, etc. is an endless list of many other bands

Dana, I did read what you wrote, but all I’m saying is regardless of whatever their genre, they still belong on the sh-t list. All I remember hearing from that crock band (heard a few “songs” in the late ’90s, unfortunately) was alot of rapping, babbling, bullsh-t, whining and complaining, but again even if they’re considered crock – I mean “rock,” they don’t deserve to be in the HOF, before anybody! “Bands” like RATM give Rock a bad name!

    • Doug R. on

I just came up with a new genre title for RATM – Crock Rock! On my way to do some early morning shopping, and to pay $4 for a gallon of gasoline, just over a year ago gas (in my area) was still under $2 a gallon, I guess this is what Morello (a.k.a. Morono) calls “Build Back Better?”

    • Doug R. on

      – that’s if I can find anything on the shelves! Build Back “Better,” yeah, right, okay…

  • Rattlehead on

    No Maiden?! Unf’n believable!

    • Taskerofpuppets on

Absolutely mind blowing that Maiden haven’t gotten in yet. Jann Werner and Co. are wankers.

    • Dana on

I am far more pissed about Judas Priest, who pre-date Maiden.

Alphabetically & chronologically from this list,
Pat Benatar, Devo, Judas Priest, MC5, New York Dolls.
Not really too familiar with my last two but can see their influence.
Yes Dana, Duran Duran probably is not a rock band in the traditional sense, but I like alot of their songs and am a fan of that early eighties electronica like Devo. Not all of it mind you but I guess I am still a fan, in fact right now I am in my favorite coffee shop and there is an eighties, new wave channel playing. I guess it reminds me of simpler times.

  • robert davenport on

Rage will get in because of morellos constant reach arounds to the halls tart wagons- MC5 should have gotten in long ago – Judas Priest should have been personally escorted into the hall by morello years ago –
PAT BENATAR AND NEIL GERALDO both better get in !
The rest of the list is typical HOF ass kissing stupidity-

Pat Benatar needs to be inducted. She along with Debbie Harry and Stevie Nicks are three extremely significant and influential rock singers…who happen to be female.

Carly Simon also needs to be inducted. As a singer-songwriter – and particularly, as a lyricist – she is as important as Elton John, Bernie Taupin, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, etc.

Sadly, I can see Benatar and Simon being passed up for The NY Dolls and Devo, both of whom are critics’ darlings…but ultimately not that good!
