ALICE COOPER STARTS NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH RELEASE OF “SUPER DUPER” DVD AND NEW GUITARIST

AliceCoopertophat Following the April premiere of Super Duper Alice Cooper at the Tribeca Film Festival, and the subsequent release of the documentary on DVD, Blu-Ray, Deluxe Editions, and digital formats this month via Eagle Rock Entertainment, rock’s greatest showman, Alice Cooper is heading out on a lengthy North American tour.

The summer trek starts with three shows in Michigan June 26th-28th before Cooper joins Motley Crue’s final All Bad Things Must Come To An End tour as a very special guest on July 2nd, running through late November.

The tour marks the debut of Alice’s new guitarist Nita Strauss, who was recently ranked #1 on Guitar World’s list of “10 Female Guitar Players You Should Know.” She takes the place of Orianthi, who has toured with Cooper for the past few years. Nita, who has made her name in bands including the Iron Maidens, Femme Fatale, and LA Kiss, joins Alice’s band’s three guitar attack, which also features guitarists Ryan Roxie and Tommy Henriksen, plus longtime bassist Chuck Garric and drummer Glen Sobel.

Super Duper Alice Cooper was produced and directed by the Banger Films team of Sam Dunn, Scot McFadyen and Reginald Harkema. Banger previously delivered the award-winning documentaries “Iron Maiden: Flight 666″ and “Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage.” Eagle Rock Entertainment released the film in DVD and Blu-Ray on June 3rd, including a deluxe edition with extensive bonus material film footage from a rare 1972 Montreal concert and a full length recent Alice Cooper concert from the 2009 Montreux Festival on CD.

Alice recently marked the tenth anniversary of his radio show Nights With Alice Cooper, which airs five days a week across the USA, Canada and Australia, as well as in the UK and Germany, syndicated worldwide by United Stations.

Comments

  1. Not familiar with Nita but Alice always has outstanding guitarist backing him. As for one of my favorites I’m glad Ryan Roxie is back in the fold again. I did get the Deluxe Edition Super Duper book with DVDs & CD. It has a lot of deleted scenes that debunks some of the Alice Cooper myth. Pretty cool stuff.

  2. So wrong Alice Cooper is opening for Motley Crue!

  3. I am a big Alice fan and loved the Super Duper Alice Cooper DVD. There wasn’t a whole lot in it, that I didn’t already know but it was good stuff. Cooper doesn’t get nearly the credit that he deserves and the guy is still an amazing live act. I know people tend to focus on the classic 70’s stuff, but I love his Dada album, The Last Temptation, and Brutal Planet among others. He seems like a great guy as well.

It is interesting he has hired another female guitarist, though I have no problem with it. I will admit when Orianthi first joined his band, I was skeptical. I have ZERO problem with female hard rockers (love Doro Pesch, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, etc), but I wasn’t sure how a female with fit in Alice’s band. I was blown away, Orianthi can flat out play, so I am sure this lady will be great as well.

I’ve been following him from ’73. I’m partial to Zipper catches skin myself. The lyrics are outstanding.

  4. Nita Strauss….Oh Alice, you never disappoint.

  5. Wish he’d get Kane Roberts back with him.

  6. Orianthi is equally talented and gorgeous. She’d become a huge part of Alice’s live show over the past few years, so it doesn’t surprise me that he decided to get another hot blond female player to take her place, rather than getting just another guitarist. Ori’s leaving some pretty big shoes to fill, but if Alice thinks Nita can do it, then she can do it. I can’t wait to see this show.

  7. Haven’t seen the documentary yet but I’m a fan of all the Banger Films docs as well as the Metal Evolution series. Alice just keeps getting better and he’ll put on a show that will make Motley Crue (and most of the audience) wish they had opened for him instead.

  8. I have seen Nita several times in the past two years on the Monsters Of Rock cruise playing with the Iron Maidens and Femme Fatale. Not only can she out play a lot of guitar players she has great stage presence.

  9. Speaking of Kane Roberts, any of you ever hear his “Saints and Sinners” album, it was great.

  10. Cant wait to see Alice on the Crue tour! I agree though that Alice should be the headliner!

  11. Steve Ensey says:

While I don’t want to get into the who is better argument, Nita is more than capable of taking Orianthi’s place. I knew it was just a matter of time before something big would happen for her. Check her out on youtube.

  12. Steven M says:

Alice cooper has an amazing catalogue and shouldn’t be opening for any band!
