Phil Gallo of Billboard reports:
The punk trio Green Day is the 48th act to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility, joining acts such as Nirvana, R.E.M. and the Clash as first-ballot honorees. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Bill Withers, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Lou Reed will join them in the class of 2015 being inducted April 18 at Cleveland’s Public Hall.
In addition, Ringo Starr will be honored with the Award for Musical Excellence and the “5” Royales will receive the Early Influence Award.
The Smiths, Nine Inch Nails, Kraftwerk, N.W.A, Sting and Chic were among acts on the ballot that did not make cut.
A voting body of more than 700 artists, historians and members of the music industry chose the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performer inductees. To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2015 nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1989.
Induction ceremony presenters, performers and broadcast information as well as additional details about the week of events leading up the show ceremony will be announced at a later date.

Paul Butterfield Blues Band at 65 once and never in top 100 again. Deep Purple charted in top 20 five times. This ” voting body of more than 700 artists, historians and members of the music industry” is a body with no brain attached. Completely clueless and completely pointless.
I agree wholeheartedly with the induction of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, but will remain mum otherwise.
Deep Purple being overlooked again is a complete travesty, and the fact that Priest’s name has never even been mentioned, just ridiculous!
D from here 🙂
This is BS! Once again Deep Purple is denied? RRHOF, I got 2 words for you, Dana, please don’t censor this, RRHOF, F YOU! Keep putting in “artists” like ABBA & RUN DMC, who aren’t even Rock ‘N’ Roll anyway to begin with, and deny a legendary band like Deep Purple? Good for SRV and DT, and Joan Jett as well, but Eddie is right, you idiots are pathetic! Deep Purple is too good for an “institution” like the RRHOF anyway!
Thanks for flying the Priest flag Dana! Unreal! And Green Day gets in on first ballot? I give up….
Of course Louis,
You and I will always champion for the mighty Priest 🙂 (And John Sykes for me as well 😀 )
D 🙂
Don’t give up Louis, Priest and Purple will get in, we just have to be patient and wait for Alvin & The Chipmunks to get in first, oh and The Wiggles, LOL! 😉
You are probably right Doug! HA! Too funny….
And as big a Priest fan as I am, how the HE** is Journey not in? For all that is holy! When I think of a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they would probably be right behind The Beatles, Elvis, The Who and the Rolling Stones! CRAZY!
Living in Austin, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble deserved to be inducted. It is a shame that Deep Purple continue to be over looked.
Something that I think is an issue is that they are inducting too many acts in each class.
Is it possible that Deep Purple isn’t getting the votes because Ritchie Blackmore has a creepy mustache and dresses like a Hobbit? Could it be a factor? Just asking the question.
Harry,
Tell me, are you secretly a standup comedian? 🙂
D 🙂
Dana, only in front of the mirror. lol
Agreed……Is the RRHOF run by North Korea? It’s that wack!! It’s settled, Kim Jung un has these ass clowns under mind control. I’m out of other explanations. So many acts left “out in the cold”……..How many more members of Purple have to slip across the rainbow bridge before they get their obvious credit? If Stevie Ray were here, I bet he’d take a stand and tell them to kiss his ass. (footnote-if you’re a SRV fan, check out Dallas tribute band “Texas Flood.” Stunning)

Well im calling a joan jett/Green day jam and a butterfield/Double trouble jam. Lol. Ringo getting a award but not deep purple is over the top hilarious. Its wrong but im not going lie. Lol. Its like thiers this conspiracy To destroy eddie trunk ringo starr for musical excellence!!!!!!??? What? What? What? . Lol. Ive seen the ringo starr all star band. And they were good. But its not really worthy of this kinda recognition . Its also a back handed compliment. Hey we dont think your good enough to get in but heres a side reward. Like a participation trophy
Somebody want to check on Eddie, haven’t heard anything from the Trunkster in 6 hours! Don’t let ’em drive you crazy Ed, the institution isn’t worth it! Everybody knows how great and influential Deep Purple was and is, and if those “brainiacs” don’t, that’s their loss!
