STRYPER TO RELEASE “LIVE AT THE WHISKY” CD/DVD ON SEPTEMBER 23RD
Stryper is back with their latest release, a live CD/DVD combination called Live At The Whisky. The live recording will be available on September 23rd through Frontiers Records and is a must have for any fan. The concert was recorded at a sold-out show last November at the famous Whisky a Go Go on Sunset Blvd. The 16-track collection documents the band’s first show in support of their latest critically acclaimed release, No More Hell To Pay.
From the show opener Legacy to the final notes of show finale Soldiers Under Command, Live At The Whisky documents Stryper’s rich musical legacy that spans over 30 years. The original lineup comprised of Michael Sweet (vocals/guitars), Robert Sweet (drums), Oz Fox (guitars) and Tim Gaines (bass) showcase the musicianship and songs that garnered the band a huge fan base in the mainstream world and the Christian market. It only holds a few, it’s the PRESTIGE.
Recording at the Whisky is a feather in your cap, so to speak.
The Whisky was prestige during it’s heyday. Nowadays it’s just another club.
It would seem to me the Whisky would lose prestige by putting on an act like Stryper. Its terrible schlock. Michael Sweet needs to join Dennis DeYoung on broadway.

The bands latest studio release is one of the best hard rock/metal releases of the year,it simply slams!
Saw Stryper a little over a month ago in Pittsburgh, PA at a club that looks similar to The Whiskey in terms of size. It was packed beyond belief, from front of stage to the entrance of the club. Easily 500 people, if not more. Took everyone well over 2 hours to get in. At one point, it poured down rain while everyone was in line, and nobody left.
When I was a kid, Stryper were disrespected by most rock fans (actually about half the rock fanbase) because they were a Christian rock band. Basically it was uncool to listen to a rock band that espoused Christian values. I didn’t care. I liked Stryper because they played awesome sounding music. These people who criticized, were fairweather/bandwagon fans. I knew that when the success of these bands wained, these bandwagoneers were going to bolt to what is the next big thing. These fair weather fans are worthless idiotic robots that don’t stand for anything. They’re just fake people, who are cowards. When I listen to a band, the main thing I want to do is “hear” great music. The lyrics are secondary to me. Stryper could play as well as any other famous/successful, “heavy metal” guitar band of those times (a.k.a. Van Halen, Motley Crue, Ratt, Lion, Twisted Sister, Dokken, Cinderella, W.A.S.P., Judas Priest, Queesryche, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica, etc.). Stryper learned their guitar playing style from their rock heros and the school of Edward Van Halen (like all the other 80’s metal bands). They didn’t suck! They played ARENAs in all 50 states and around the world. They sold millions of albums and made millions of dollars. They were the only Christian metal band that could hang with the successful, regular rock bands of the time. I know all of this because I was there, in the thick of it all as an impressionable kid. If any of you think they suck, listen to the song “Surrender” on the Soldiers album. I’d put their guitar playing up against Eric Crapton, any day of the week! Eric Crapton’s guitar “talent” is OBSOLETE compared to this. If you still disagree, you’re either an idiotic moron or DEAF! Not one of today’s new bands (1990’s and later) can hold a candle to Oz Fox and Michael Sweet, as well as George Lynch, Chris Holmes, Doug Alrich, Chris DeGarmo, Adrian Smith, Warren DeMartini, the late Robin Crosby, Eddie Ojeda, Dave Mustaine, Marty Friedman, Randy Rhoades, Jake E. Lee, Zakk Wylde, and again, EDWARD VAN HALEN. Get a clue! These bands STILL sell records 30 years later! I would have to say that Stryper were (and still are) pretty damn popular, as well as successful! By the way, I’d like to point out that Michael Sweet is probably the only rock singer from the 80’s who can still hit the high notes, as a middle-aged rock singer. Since he followed the tenents of the bible (no smoking or drinking, except for that short period in the 90’s), his voice is as good as it was then. That last album they did blew everyone else away. They still got it! If you doubt me, listen to the song “Water Into Wine”. I dare anyone to disagree.
