RUSH’S GEDDY LEE RECOUNTS THAT MANY DRUMMERS CONTACTED THE BAND AFTER NEIL PEARTS PASSING AND THAT “IT WAS DISTASTEFUL TO ME”

Rush bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee spoke with  Phil Weller of Guitar World magazine, excerpts from the column appear below.

Rush are set to hit the road for the first time since Neil Peart’s passing next month, with former Jeff Beck drummer Anika Nilles sitting in for the Professor. But while the band was still in mourning after his death, Geddy Lee says some drummers were already eying Peart’s position.

“People who are close to us – good friends that are successful drummers – would never infer something like that because they have too much respect, not only for Neil and for the situation,” Lee tells Guitar World. “They were grieving as well, so they wouldn’t be so selfish as to say something inappropriate like that.”

However, he adds that “there were many other drummers who reached out to me in the aftermath of Neil’s passing that were pushing themselves, and that was most distasteful to me. It was completely inappropriate timing.”

  1. Absolutely disgusting. Money and fame at any and all costs have replaced morals, family values and respect for many people on this planet. Very happy that Geddy and Alex found Anika.

    1. really? that just sounds like more sanctimonious drivel from this virtue signaling, self righteous, complete jack ass who seems to have wanted to invent his own religion…Insufferable…that should be their new band name.

    2. Anika is a hack…this guy wants to have it both ways….he should just END RUSH…because NO ONE can replace Peart…except maybe some serious orchestra person who would do a one off for charity.

  2. Seems like a pointless attention grabbing headline to make one think about RUSH. It worked! Surprised anyone in the RUSH camp would promote such dribble. Then again we live in a wild place where negativity rules the roost….here I am being negative. ;o]==

  3. what is the world coming to?? people can’t appreciate the very distinct artistry…and I am not even close to a Rush fan….of Peart v. the technical hackness of these other people….the guy is really irreplaceable.
