Andy Greene of Rolling Stone reports:
Rush are planning a lengthy “41st anniversary” tour for 2015, according to guitarist Alex Lifeson. “The three of us just had a meeting,” Lifeson tells Rolling Stone. “We said, ‘Let’s not talk about anything band-wise for the next year. Let’s separate ourselves and come back rejuvenated.’ Unfortunately, the other people at that meeting didn’t hear what we were talking about, so there are already plans being made for spring of 2015. It’s going to be a 41st anniversary tour, or whatever they’re going to call it.”
The specifics of the tour are still in flux. “We haven’t really talked seriously about what we want to do,” says Lifeson. “But I think we’re probably going to lean towards making it a real sort of fan event, and really try to put something together that’s very pleasing for the fans across the board. That’s always been difficult, for us to sort of balance things.
Rush’s last tour was centered around the group’s new album, Clockwork Angels, as well as deep cuts from their 1980s catalog. They didn’t play a single song from the 1970s until a show-closing medley of tracks from 2112. “We want to try and play different material this time,” Lifeson says. “I’ve always wanted to do some rarer Rush material, and this should be a good opportunity to do that. I also think it’s going to be a long tour. We just need to stay healthy until then.”
This year marks the group’s 40th anniversary with drummer Neil Peart, but the group was too burned out to celebrate with a tour.

As a huge Rush fan the 30th Anniversary show was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. Really, every Rush show I’ve been to has been excellent but if I had to pick a favorite, that would probably be it. Of course I’m happy they’ll be coming around again, but it sounds like the band maybe doesn’t really want to and management is forcing it on them? If they stay with the trend of the last few albums, it’s around 5 years between them so if there is to be another full length rush record I wouldn’t expect it before 2017. The guys will be close to 65 then. Maybe we’ll get another EP before this tour like they did with “Feedback”? If so, instead of covers my wishlist would be a new instrumental, maybe one or two more new tracks, and maybe one or two re-recordings of older songs but with alternate arrangements. For example, I remember a long time ago Alex Lifeson said the original version of “Show Don’t Tell” was much heavier than what ended up on “Presto”. I think it would be cool to hear what it might have been. It would be ridiculous to expect Geddy to sing the old(est) stuff in as high a register as the originals. However, the show I attended on the Clockwork Angels tour he sounded shockingly powerful, honestly among the best vocally I’ve ever heard him going back to 1990. I think he sounded better that night than the performances recorded for the Clockwork Angels live CD/video. Maybe it was just a “good night” but the guy can still bring it. Who knows how long they’ll keep going, they’re still playing at a high level, but at this point I do view every tour as though it might be the last. Personally I think we’ll get the 41st anniversary tour, then *maybe* one more album and a farewell tour. Although Alex’s comment of thinking the 41st is going to be a “long tour” makes me wonder if perhaps it will be the last one.
We need some RUSH in the Great State of Alaska! Been a fan since Yeah Oooh Yeah! Would love to see another Time Machine Tour in which they played 2112 in it’s fullness! And of course more 70’s tunes……
PLEASE put us on your Tour! Anchorage, Alaska and Fairbanks, Alaska! We’ll even send you home with some salmon! Rock On! From your Brothers and Sisters in the Great White North…………
Last time I saw them I was in Dublin with one of Rush’s biggest fans, Mike Giancona. We had dined on smelt and pickled cauliflower earlier in the evening and were 6 rows back. There was a nasty draft in the facility which was confirmed by Rory Billson, the facility manager, to be a broken set of doors on the west side of the building. In front of us was the now famous “visor guy”, a legendary fan who can be seen on the Clockwork Angels Tour video during the song Tom Sawyer. All in all a good show.
