Justin Kroll of Variety reports:

Colson Baker, known by his stage name Machine Gun Kelly, has been tapped to play Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee in Netflix’s adaptation of the band’s biography The Dirt.

Jeff Tremaine, who helmed the Jackass movies, is directing the film from a script by Rich Wilkes and Tom Kapinos. Julie Yorn, Erik Olsen, and Allen Kovac are producing, while Chris Nilsson, Steve Kline, and Rick Yorn are exec producing. Members of Motley Crue are co-producing.

Based on the 2001 autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, the movie follows the group’s rise during the ’80s “hair band” rock scene on the Sunset Strip and pulls no punches as it dives into the band’s highs and lows along the way. Motley Crue played its final concert on New Year’s Eve in 2015 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles…

…This is the closest the film has come to moving toward production after years of jumping from studio to studio. It landed at Paramount Pictures more than a decade ago. Larry Charles was initially attached to direct “The Dirt” for Paramount and MTV Films in 2006. Focus then came on in 2015 while the band was on its final tour. At that point, Tremaine and the current producers were on board…

Well, I hope they can do wonders in the makeup department, because he does not resemble Lee, at all. Ashton Kutcher would have been better casting, in my humble opinion.

I think he does resemble him somewhat. Kutcher is too old to play Lee, especially any scenes from their early years.

Actually, I think Kutcher still looks young. When he played Kelos, on That 70’s Show, something about him, reminded me of Lee.

Yes Dana, I agree. Plus if he put a bit of the Kelso character from his time on “That 70s Show” into it, it would almost be like the real thing.

I’ve heard in the past that they were looking for somebody to play David Lee Roth and Ozzy Osbourne. For Roth, I would like to put forward David Hyde Pearce, “Niles Crane” from Frazier, and for Ozzy it has to be English impressionist Jon Culshaw, who actually does a very good impression of Ozzy and did a T.V advert here in England with…..Ozzy Osbourne….as Ozzy Osbourne!

Exactly, Kelso always reminded me of Lee. 🙂

Do you have a youtube link to that add?

      D 🙂

      LOL!!! Thanks.

Ozzy reminds me a little of my grandfather. My grandpa was half British.

Glad you liked the video of Jon Culshaw impersonating Ozzy.

      Here’s another for you – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUre7GEKDAE

Forward to 1.09 for the sketch to begin….There’s also an impersonation of Sharon on this one.

LOL!!! He sounds, and moves, a lot like him. The woman playing Sharon also did a good of imitating her voice.

      Thank you for sharing.

I agree Dana. Looks more like “Bible Man” actor Wille Ames more so than any resemblance to Lee. Maybe he can play drums, though.

Won’t be going to see that in the theater, that’s for sure .

Tommy Lee, I love everything you did in Motley Crue, but as a rapper? F–K YOU!!
    Trader/Sellout “Bastard!”

    • Doug R. on

My wife just corrected me, traitor/sellout “Bastard!” Now I have to go pick up my balls! (Bowling balls) 😉
Who the f–k is that schmuck anyway? Nevermind, I don’t really want to know. I’ll bet, I’m sure Vince, Nikki and Mick won’t have a rapper playing them in the movie! Tommy, grow the f–k up already!! What young punk-ass listens to or knows, or wants to know anything about Motley Crue?! Either get a real rocker/musician to play you, or forget about the dirt!

I’d like to see who they get to play Mick Mars

      Any suggestions, Charles?

I like Motley as much as the next guy, but is there actually a market for this movie?
