RAINBOW TO CELEBRATE ITS FIRST DECADE BY RELEASING “THE SINGLES BOX SET 1975-1986” IN FEBRUARY
The first decade of Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow will be celebrated with a limited-edition 19-disc box set early next year.
It contains reproductions of the original vinyl singles’ artwork and comes complete with a 32-page book detailing the band’s release history from 1975 until 1986. Sleeve notes are written by Andy Francis.
Label Commercial Marketing states, “As one of the cornerstones of British Rock, Rainbow, led by the never-predictable but ever-astonishing guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, became synonymous with some of the most well regarded and popular charting Rock songs of the seventies and eighties. Passing through the band were some of the best the genre had to offer – vocalists Ronnie James Dio and Graham Bonnet, bass player and producer Roger Glover and drummer Cozy Powell. Each brought their individual talents to record some of rock’s best-loved timeless singles.”
Rainbow: The Singles Box Set 1975-1986 is released on February 3rd.

This is good and nostalgic but still just a gimmick. CD singles? Liner notes? This is a dated concept for sure. If it is under $30, count me in but it won t be so I’ll wait and get it used. Members of HELLOWEEN did an album of RAINBOW covers in the late 90s which was interesting. Blackmore makes no money off of these new releases and it shows. I got DOWN TO EARTH deluxe on iTunes and all of the extra songs were inferior versions of album songs. Temper expectations.
As a Rainbow and Blackmore fan – this looks disappointing.
Don t be too disappointed as all of those songs are really good. 3 distinct singers all doing their thing backed by many top metal musicians. Imagine if you could: Cozy Powell, Don Airey, Roger Glover, Bob Daisley, and Jmmy Bain all on the same compilation and that’s to name a few. The guitarist wasn t too bad either. It s too bad the 1990s reboot did 1 album and then Ritchie changed genres. This music deserves a live audience. Anyone remember MAN ON THE SILVER MOUNTAIN being played on COORS LIGHT commercials? Now they use ICE-CUBE. How did that happen?
I’m good with the music on it. But from a distribution/business perspective, this is a stupid idea. This could have been done in a much more compact/cost effective way. But clearly the marketing company in question wants to be able to charge massive dollars to obtain, and alot of fans will not pay the $$$’s for it. So when this bombs, it won’t be surprising.
Hey Ritchie, you still play? Wenner must be upset at you n Purple like Kiss,Ronstadt,Moodies. No Ace or Peter at a HOF show will be laughable, especially Thayer & Singer in the other guys’ war paint. Prepare for Gene’s laughable excuse.
How is Stargazer not in this boxset????????????

Saw Rainbow in 1982 with JL Turner on vocals. Can’t understand why they didn’t play Jealous Lover. Ritchie played some great guitar that night. Triple bill with Scorpions and Riot.
