QUESTION OF THE WEEK: WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE AND/OR BANDS/MUSICIANS THAT PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED THAT YOU ENJOY?

  • Chris Issak
  • Bossa Nova
  • Baroque Classical (Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Hayden, etc.)
  • Madonna and Janet Jackson
  • Harry Belafonte
  • While I occasionally find Tibetan monks chanting hypnotic, I cannot get into The Hu.

  1. Well, from time to time, I do enjoy a little Air Supply, the Carpenters (because, seriously, how can you not love Karen’s vocals?!), and a bunch of yacht rock artists/bands. And yes… I do like Taylor Swift.

  2. I feel like on the anniversary of Edward Van Halen’s passing, I should answer this question with one of his favorite quotes: “If it sounds good, it is good.”

I have always agreed with that statement wholeheartedly. And on the basis of that, there is no such thing as a “guilty pleasure” in music. If it sounds good to you, then it’s good.

    Shine on, EVH!

    1. I agree, I wouldn’t call it a “guilty pleasure” either, as Barry Gibb said – We’ve got nothing to be Guilty of! 😉

  3. Loved seeing all the comments on here and liked everyone’s choices.
Between the Monkees and New Edition and Barry Manilow – what is not to love about a great song, groove, lyric and/or voice?

What I will add is my love for instrumentals especially on soundtracks – so many wonderful arrangements – some favorites:
    – Anything Thomas Newman creates – one of my favorites is “Walkaway” from Meet Joe Black
    – “Rocky’s Reward” from Rocky by Bill Conti
    – “Building the Barn” from Witness by Maurice Jarre
    – “Promised Land Theme” from Promised Land by James Newton Howard
    – The entire To Live and Die in LA” soundtrack by Wang Chung
    – The entire “Charlie Brown Christmas” soundtrack by Vince Guaraldi
    – “Theme from St. Elmo’s Fire” by David Foster

  4. GenX here, a little younger than Eddie.
    90s Indie/Alt was is awesome!
Here in Cincinnati we had the famous 97X and later Channel Z. (Man I miss those days)
Also,……I couldn’t help being influenced by others listening to funk, hip-hop, NWA, etc, etc in the 80s. Even classical.
“All things hard rock and heavy metal” is top of the list but many other tied for 2nd.
Bad hearing to prove it lol.
