Mötley Crüe has released an official statement regarding guitarist Mick Mars announcing that he is retiring from touring:
“While change is never easy, we accept Mick’s decision to retire from the band due to the challenges with his health. We have watched Mick manage his Ankylosing Spondylitis for decades and he has always managed it with utmost courage and grace.
To say “enough is enough” is the ultimate act of courage. Mick’s sound helped define Mötley Crüe from the minute he plugged in his guitar at our very first rehearsal together. The rest, as they say, is history. We’ll continue to honor his musical legacy. |
We will carry out Mick’s wish and continue to tour the world as planned in 2023. No doubt will it take an absolutely outstanding musician to fill Mick’s shoes so we are grateful that our good friend, John 5 has agreed to come on board and join us moving forward. We’ll see all you Crüeheads out on the road.” Vince, Tommy & Nikki” |
Guitarist John 5’s statement reads, “I’m honored to carry on Mick’s legacy and am looking forward to playing these songs.”
Mötley Crüe recently announced another leg of their co-headlining tour with Def Leppard, which is slated to cover Latin America and Europe from February through July of 2023, please go to motley.com for more details.

Hi Dana, I think the incentive for new music by these classic artists is “creativity”. Without creativity, these artists become stale….and we are seeing more and more of it from these classic artists.
IMO, creating music is more than just business…..it’s an outlet for these musicians to express themselves. It’s an art. These musicians should be creating music they enjoy for themselves….and if fans like it and artists are able to profit from it, then that’s great bonus. Today’s technology makes it very easy for artists to record new music.
I get so sick of Paul $tanley and Gene $immon$ commenting that KI$$ not making new music is because it’s not profitable. Perhaps KI$$ doesn’t cuz their skills have significantly diminished, but I wish they wouldn’t blame financial reasons….particularly when collectively their net worth is about $700 million.
Music artists need to create…..
Rattle,
I think your comments are true of young musicians, maybe McCartney, and those that still care, like AC/DC, Priest, Ozzy, Megadeth, Metallica, etc. However for the many that may want to create, there are just as many, if not more, who already made their money, and don’t have the incentive to do so, amymore. They lost their hunger many moons ago, and are only motivated when they feel they can make a profit.
I agree about bands losing hunger….Meh-tallica lost their hunger over 30 years ago after they made their money from the “Blah-k album”…..biggest commercial sellout in heavy metal history.
Very well said! Dana your comments are very interesting too. Only caring about the money makes them not really artists anymore. The band starts to become annoying just touring and touring for their life styles. I saw MC on the farewell tour with Cooper about 6 or 7 years ago and was bored out of my mind with MC. Back in 85 when seeing them, it was the most exciting thing ever! Creativity. Look at Tool. Maynard would not put something out until it sounded a certain way. They worked on Fear for years to get it right. That is an artist!! I lost respect for bands like Motley Crue, Guns and Roses and will not spend a penny on them until they show that they are still artists. Motley is one step away from a recording at their shows if its not going on already. If one of these guys moved in next store to me, i would probably put up a fence! Haha!
George,
Speaking of Guns, Rose took 13 years to create Chinese Democracy.
Hello Dana, Chinese Democracy is a great album. I love it from the beginning to the end but what has been going on after that besides my hair getting a little grayer? Also, that was the Axel Rose band. Not really Guns and Roses even if he is smart enough to own the band name and he has a great sound to that release! If Slash had a wife like Sharron Osbourne thats what that would have been called.
Motley crue officially release an official statement officially stating mick mars has un officially retired from touring meaning he is officially still in the band ~
