  1. It’s always been Paul and Gene’s band from the inception, more Paul’s band. Peter and Ace were hired and joined Paul’s band. Peter and Ace aren’t “founders” of anything.

    1. I agree it’s always been Paul (mostly) and Gene’s band. But both Ace and Peter were there at the beginning and helped develop the band, music, characters, stage show, band logo, etc…that would lead to the success of the band. IMO, to not include them as “founding” members diminishes their importance to the band…a band that continues today living off the legacy helped created by Ace and Peter.

    2. Oh really? Paul and Gene themselves refer to Ace and Peter as founding members, BECAUSE THEY ARE! Ace designed the logo, and unlike your Tommy Faker and Eric Copycat Singer, Ace and Peter have character, because they created their own characters, again, unlike your Faker and Copycat.

  2. Almost 50 years into their career, I’m really glad that every single KISS press release reminds people that they are “known for their trademark larger-than-life blistering performances,” they are “globally recognized as one of the greatest live bands of all time,” and that they are “the creator of what is universally considered the best live album ever, 1975’s gold-certified and No. 9 Billboard charting Alive!”

I mean, if this press release hadn’t listed their resume, I might’ve read it and thought, “Hmm…KISS?….remind me again who they are…”

(Note to the person at the KISS office who wrote this press release: Next time, don’t forget to mention that they are famous for wearing “outrageous makeup.”)

  3. well, RT, this doc is for the uninitiated …I “dated” a woman briefly whose 9 year old son is as enamored with Kiss as I was; thus. they were/are historical…when art works it forces people to live in the present…mostly, we only live in the past or the future…either remembering and/or planning..art causes us to be fully present..it is life changing…KISS did that better than anybody; Kiss was a full disclosure of our authenticity, our true, authentic self….so, why don’t you just sit this one out and let this doc serve its purpose for the many who weren’t there for the beginning..

Dci…your posts really don’t have any objectivity…I can’t take you seriously.

    1. Eh, no. I’m not going to “sit this one out.” I’ve been a KISS fan since 1979. I’m as big a fan as any lieutenant colonel in the KISS Army. As a pop culture phenomenon, KISS has been pretty ubiquitous since the mid ’70s. To quote Gene himself, “We are the most recognized faces on the planet.” Now does that mean that everyone knows what the first song on Side 2 of Hotter Than Hell (All The Way) is? No. But most people are at least peripherally aware of KISS. As for children who aren’t aware of KISS yet, I doubt that they are watching A&E, or that they are the documentary’s target demographic. My point in (good-naturedly) laughing at their press release was only to point out how “on message” these guys always are and how they keep reiterating what’s pretty well known to anyone who hasn’t lived under a rock for the past 45 years. So, no. I’m not going to “sit this one out.” Thanks!

    2. Just because you know the obscure songs doesn’t make you a better Kiss fan than a young kid who will tell you Love Gun is their best song…the Kiss ontology just works on kids of any era…there’s too much evidence to support it…these kids now have the same experience from Kiss that we did…I set it out up there in my comment…Kiss is not about conformity notwithstanding that they appropriate musical trends..you have to let go and appreciate that some kid will watch this bio and be glued to the TV.
