    1. The beginning reminds me of Night Ranger Rock In America and the rest is reminiscent of Painkiller. It sounds really good. The only thing that bothers me about Priest is that even when they put out a killer album after 2-3 listens I’m done with it for good. I think I’ve heard British Steel 5 times through though since 1980 release

  1. Hi Dana

As you know, classic Judas Priest is my second all time favourite band. I have however given up on them since KK Downing called it quits.

Via this website, I have been open about why I haven’t liked the two albums they’ve done with Richie Faulkner in the past. I again will reiterate that I have nothing against Mr Faulkner or his guitar playing as he is a billion times better than I’ll ever be.

So, what about this new song? Well, I would say that this is probably the best song I’ve heard from them since KK left. Why is that? Well, having listened to it twice, I’ve broken it down and have come up with the following:

“Like your good self, yes – I hear Tom Sawyer by Rush in the beginning. In that opening section I also noted One Shot at Glory and Hellion/Electric Eye.

    All good so far….

Then there’s the main body of the song’s riffs. It was here that I noted Painkiller, Hammer and the Anvil and Metal Meltdown. Before I even began noting things, I had said to myself: “This could have been on the Painkiller album”; one of my favourites – although not yours if memory serves me correctly.

Now look at four of the songs mentioned above once again – Painkiller, Hammer and the Anvil, Metal Meltdown & One Shot at Glory.”

The connection? All from the same album.

Way back in 2014 on this website when I wrote a comment about the first album without KK (Was it called Redeemer of Souls?) I noted about how I felt that old riffs were being re-hashed. Although I do think that this does sound good, I can’t help but feel that this is maybe happening again. But looking at all of the above mentioned classics (including Rush) it was never going to sound bad was it?

What do you and the other good readers think?

    1. Hello friend,

Sorry, I am late with my response. It’s okay, but it is so difficult to beat classic Priest, and I agree KK not being in the band, has an affect.

  2. Hello Dana, this is one of your better posts due to getting deeper. I dont see Rush at all. The first listen to Panic Attack was, it is just ok. The second listen I liked it a lot more. Rob Halford’s voice and vibe sounds really really great. The lyrics I love! The band is making no new ground in this song. But i rather hear the whole album before placing it somewhere between Point of Entry and Ram in Down. My favorite and least listened to Priest releases.I loved the 2 solos in this song. I am so thankful that they have not retired and are still putting out new music!!! Kk is missed here but what a great thing that he has going on with the great Ripper singer! Redeemer has better songs than this in my opinion. I own Firepower but have not listened to it yet.
