Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra will be releasing a new studio album Dying To Live from his electrifying new side project, Joel Hoekstra’s 13, on October 16th. Hoekstra had released a second video for the song, Until I Left You, featuring vocals by Jeff Scott Soto. Watch it below.
Hoekstra states, Until I Left You is a song about growing older, setting aside your insecurities and realizing that you’re able to become the person you’ve wanted to be. The song represents the poppier/hookier side of Dying to Live. I’m looking forward to releasing the edgier/heavier tracks as well, but hoping you’ll have this one stuck in your head until that happens! The understated, tasteful playing of Vinny Appice, Tony Franklin and Derek Sherinian provide an amazing support for the guitars and of course the amazing vocal delivery of Jeff Scott Soto makes the song!”

Vinny looks bored, like he could play this in his sleep, which he could. Solid vocals though.
Vinny was always one of my favorite drummers, however I think this song is about as exciting as watching paint dry…or listening to paint dry.
Really can’t go wrong with Soto as your lead vocalist, but it does sound like his solo stuff and from W.E.T. Somewhat hard to differentiate that this is Hoelkstra’s band. I like the song though; good straight up rock song.
