GUITARIST JOE SATRIANI SAYS HE IS “HEARTBROKEN” ABOUT CHICKENFOOT AND AIMS TO FORM ANOTHER BAND

Chickenfoo640 Guitarist Joe Satriani has given up trying to bring Chickenfoot together for another album – and he’s planning to form another band instead.

Satriani says he’s tried to persuade singer Sammy Hagar, bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Chad Smith to make a follow-up to their second title Chickenfoot III, released in 2011 – but he’s had no luck. He’s decided it’s over despite a brief reunion with Hagar and Smith at a charity concert last month.

Satch tells Ultimate Classic Rock, ”So there was the three of us – three Footers were there, gentlemen of the Foot hanging out. But I get the distinct feeling it’s just not going to happen. For reasons that are too boring to go into, I’ve kind of giving up trying to be the instigator, of trying to get another record done.

At the end of the benefit, although it was one of those fun things with being up there with Sammy and Chad again, I just got the feeling that they’re not thinking it’s on the cards.”

He reveals that much of the material on solo his new solo album Shockwave Supernova, out in July, was originally designed to be Chickenfoot music.

“I recorded all of the demos for a new record,” he says. “I really just couldn’t get people motivated to get going with it. So, that music has moved on. I’m actually looking forward to maybe finding another band to collaborate with.”

But he adds, “If the guys want to do something, I’m always ready for it. I love Chickenfoot, and I think it’s one of the coolest things that’s ever happened to all of us. I’m a bit heartbroken that we weren’t able to work on a couple more albums and tour. But you’ve got to move on – that’s reality. Those guys have other things to do that are important to them, so, I respect it.”

Smith is working on the next Red Hot Chili Peppers album while Hagar’s supergroup The Circle, also featuring Anthony, issued live album At Your Service in May.

The Zeppelin boys are breathing a sigh of relief!

Here’s my proposal for Joe’s next supergroup: Joe Lynn Turner on vocals, Glenn Hughes on bass, Jason Bonham on drums.

Bonham is currently playing with Hagar and Anthony.

      D 🙂

Thanks. Last time I looked Jason was with Glenn!

When do we stop calling every band with members from other bands a supergroup? Really, the term is getting absurd and meaningless.

What Sammy is doing is a greatest hits tour. Am I going to buy a “The Circle” live album with almost all VH tunes and Sammy tunes? Nope. I might with Joe playing the guitar, though. It think part of the problem is that recording an album is expensive, and album sales suck, so they just go and play the hits. Joe’s better off moving on.

The Circle released a great LIVE album.
Montrose and Zeppelin tunes too, give it a try.

A bit heartbroken? You and me both Joe, I also would love another album from Chickenfoot, as would many others. Great chemistry, great music, from 4 great musicians!

Joe is the one who was promoting and touring his last solo album that made him unavailable for Chickenfoot. Chad was somewhat limited by his RHCP commitments.
Can’t blame Sammy & Mikey, they just keep on playing.
I’d love to see more Chickenfoot.
Joe, you might want to talk to Miles Kennedy about how to make multiple bands work.

Amen Doug! Not only were they great together but they also scored at least one gold album and that simply doesn’t happen these days. Even though I’m not surprised by this news, I’m still bummed out about it.

Dude, I saw Rush in concert a couple of weeks ago and when they come your way you have to go see them. It’s sad to think they might be calling it quits are far as touring goes because they were PHENOMENAL, as they always are. I soaked in every second of that concert. Walking to the parking lot afterwards was bittersweet and I told my brother that it’d be a shame if that was the last time we get to see Rush in concert, especially because we took his 15 year old son who has freaked out ever since and cant stop talking about how great Rush is live. That kid has become a massive fan now.

      Cheers and rock on brother!

James, June 29th, MSG, I’m there! So cool that your Nephew enjoyed the concert so much! Most young people today just don’t know what they’re missing. As far as Chickenfoot goes, you never know, Sammy really loves playing with Joe, so I wouldn’t be surprised if sometime down the road we get another album from Chickenfoot. Right now, let’s just enjoy The Circle’s live album, “At Your Service.” I saw them last year in Atlantic City, FN’ amazing! Hope all is well in your area, I know you guys have been slammed with unbelievably horrible weather the last couple of weeks or so, hang in there bud! Well Saturday I’m off on my Vegas vacation, I’m gonna win, in “Sin City,” Viva Las Vegas! Should be back in 2 weeks, give or take, depends on my crazy friends! Take care James, hope you stay “High ‘N’ Dry,” CHEERS!

      Have fun in Vegas!

On TMS, Sammy alluded to fact that he’s not into staying with one band anymore. And it seems Mike goes where Sammy goes and Chad would never put anything above the Red Hot Chili Peppers. So this news is really not a surprise. Oh well, they were a good band while they were around.
