GENE SIMMONS SAYS HE HATES PERFORMING KISS’ “I WAS MADE FOR LOVING YOU”

Gene Simmons says he hates playing KISS’, I Was Made For Loving You, because of its signature melody.

Simmons was a guest of OK Magazine when he was asked to name a KISS song he didn’t like, but one that still went on to become a hit.

He says that when Paul Stanley first introduced him to the tune, which appeared on their 1979 album Dynasty, he was immediately impressed with Stanley’s opening lyrics. But when Gene asked what his part was, he was told it would be the catchy chorus melody.

Simmons said to Stanley, “You’re killing me. I’m going to sing like my grandmother? I hate playing that song today. Stadiums full of people jumping up and down like biblical locusts. They go nuts jumping up and down and I’m going, ‘Do, do, do, do, do, do, kill me now. Still to this day I hate that song.”

Craig, Van Halen I & II came out before Dynasty. As KISS started slipping, VH started rising. I’m just glad (as I’m sure they are) that they didn’t listen to Gene and change their name to Daddy Longlegs! LOL!!! Could you imagine? …”here is a new song called Runnin’ With The Devil by a brand new band called Daddy Longlegs”… crickets… LOL!!! 😉
    What was Gene thinking?

Craig , I have to say the only song I liked on dynasty was 2000 man , for me up to that point at my age then , it was the worst album they put out- then the elder, and unmasked, both of which I took back and I quit listening until creatures – I still dont like dynasty all these years later masterpiece is a huge stretch for me just cant go there – I do agree with you about not much great music on ace’s new album ,when you have achieved the kind of success ace, pete ,paul and gene have, and your 50, 60+ yrs old it’s tough to write a great timeless rock song , it has been done on a rare occasion , but it’s tough –

The single aside, Dynasty is an unbelievable record. I would suggest Ace’s contributions on Dynasty are his best on any KISS record, same could be said for Peter. Despite the malfunctioning personalities at the time, Dynasty is essentially the most well rounded representation of the band based on how many songs each sang.

Charisma is still my favorite song from this album and one of my favorite KISS songs. 2000 Man is glorious as well.

The version of I Was Made For Loving You on Alive III is my favorite version and should be appreciated more.
