GENE SIMMONS SAYS HE HATES PERFORMING KISS’ “I WAS MADE FOR LOVING YOU”

Gene Simmons says he hates playing KISS’, I Was Made For Loving You, because of its signature melody.

Simmons was a guest of OK Magazine when he was asked to name a KISS song he didn’t like, but one that still went on to become a hit.

He says that when Paul Stanley first introduced him to the tune, which appeared on their 1979 album Dynasty, he was immediately impressed with Stanley’s opening lyrics. But when Gene asked what his part was, he was told it would be the catchy chorus melody.

Simmons said to Stanley, “You’re killing me. I’m going to sing like my grandmother? I hate playing that song today. Stadiums full of people jumping up and down like biblical locusts. They go nuts jumping up and down and I’m going, ‘Do, do, do, do, do, do, kill me now. Still to this day I hate that song.”

But I’ll bet Uncle Gene doesn’t hate how much money KISS made from that song! Once again, it was 1979! It was ONE song, almost everybody made at least 1 “different” kind of a song at that time, get over it! Notice, IWMFLY is on EVERY KISS compilation album since it’s release? Just sayin’. $$$$

Brother Doug! You beat me to it! I agree, Gene certainly does love the money that song has made!

Bingo -,surprised they did not open Kiss-o-techs to cash of the disco craze.
Song was catchy. Liked Gene’s bass lines on the song.

Doug, when I first heard this song the world seemed uncanny, strange. I didn’t dislike the song but I just didn’t expect Kiss to do that. I am remembering that moment now at my friend Doug’s (different Doug)…he liked it, and being a Kiss fan, I guess Kiss could pretty much yodle anything and I would’ve liked it…but I was hurt too…lol….I was Doug, and then me and Aaron Jones went to Doug’s to give our full attention to the Dynasty record, Doug’s mom had this really expensive stereo system, so we sat there and intently listened to it and I was underwhelmed; it didn’t grab me it just kind of sat there…so I didn’t really like it much at the time though now I think about it much differently. DR summed up this record the best.

And speaking of this Kiss move; I think Load is a really good record, but Re-Load, I guess the outtakes from Load, is not so much.

I used to love that song. Now I hate listening to it live on You Tube while Paul butchers it.

Maybe that’s why Gene hates it. Would be painful listening to Paul croak his way through it on tour.

      Agreed. It’s embarrassing.

As catchy as the song is, I never liked it. I remember being thoroughly confused upon first hearing it, just as I was hearing Body Language by Queen. What kills me is at the time (’79-’82), hard rock was coming up full swing from England over here, and my top 2 favorite rock bands were doing gay club and disco songs. What the hell kind of sense is that? I was made is catchy like disco Bee Gees, but catchy like the crabs. At the end of the day, they were money makers and that’s it. Doesn’t mean it’s great.

What a coincidence, I hate hearing it! Good call Gene! One last tour, so stand up to your boss and tell him you’re not playing it!
