FRONTMAN STEPHEN PEARCY ON HIS FORMER BAND RATT: “30 YEARS IS ENOUGH TIME TO BE IN SOMETHING THAT’S SO VOLATILE”
Former Ratt singer Stephen Pearcy says he walked out on the band for the last time because he felt three decades of “volatile” living was enough.
He believes the notoriously unstable band changed for the worse when guitarist Robbin Crosby died in 2002 – but his offer of returning for a final album remains open.
Pearcy, who quit in April, tells Inappropriate Earl, “30 years is enough time to be in something that’s so volatile. Things weren’t proper.”
He reports he’s enjoying life more with his solo band, although he’s not planning to stage any large-scale tours. “There’s less drama and there’s less overall business structure,” he says. “It’s more back to basics. I just like getting out there once in a while.”
The singer describes Crosby’s death after a heroin overdose as “the end of the Ratt tale, so to speak,” adding, “I knew it would never be the same. No disrespect to whoever else stepped in. It’s just not the same – and hence all the catastrophe that followed.”
Speaking about the chance of recording a follow-up to 2010’s Infestation, Pearcy says, “If it’s the four original guys, that would be cool. If not, you’ll get what you got before. We’ll see.”
However, if it doesn’t happen, he reflects, “I’m happy with my legacy. We do very well for ourselves, so it’s all good. I can live with it and move on. The heyday is over with.”
Drummer Bobby Blotzer reacted to Pearcy’s departure earlier this year by accusing him of being “delusional” – but added he’d welcome “the nice Stephen” back into the fold.

We all know that Robin was your best friend and confidant and in your heart his death eats and yearns you at all times. What I am still confused about is that in your book you became the heroin addict in the end, is it the drugs, booze and excess that has gotten to you? Infestation was the best work Ratt has probably ever done (not a fan of the entire Ratt albums from back in the day) just singles. Carlos is by far the best muciscan to grace Ratt’s presence then again it is or was your baby and you see it how you see it. Too bad for us I think all the good bands are just about DONE!!!
I hope he’s not slagging Carlos Cavazo. Carlos brings an “a” game to the band. Infestation was fantastic. Do whatever you want Steve. You always do, but your fan base is aging rapidly and there’s only so many more years people will pay to see RATT in concert. We all know hardly any bands make jack shit on record sales anymore.
You make money touring…Carlos has zilch coming in from signed away royalties on dead unit back catalog….I’m sure he’s bugging you to Ratt & Roll not Pearcy at 80’s revival festivals. Who wants to see Ratt without Pearcy or Pearcy without Ratt?
Stephen looks like a female junkie. Cover up, cut your hair and eat something. How did Jaini Lane fare outside of WARRANT? Stephen is a talented singer but offers no star power. Nobody’s paying to see him with a bunch of other guys. WAY COOL JUNIOR is 3AM drunk listening to music and we’re too old for that now. It is RATT or nothing my friend. It has been 25 years since the descent of heavy metal, cherish the fans you have left and stop the nonsense with watered down RATT. Either sing or do a sex tape. Stop talking.

A sex tape with that guy? YUCK. I get what you are saying except it is more like 4am high on HYDROCODONE listening to music. Awful stuff, the worst band in history. FASTER PUSSYCAT is like DEEP PURPLE next to RATT.
Stephen doesn’t want to be in the band unless it’s “the four original guys”. It’s not hard to read into what he means by that and who he wants out of the band. I think Carlos is a great addition to Ratt. Stephen will be back, don’t worry. They’ll be at odds for a while, slam each other in the press, do their own thing and then they’ll patch things up and reunite.
Do worry that he will be back. RATT is worse than WANG CHUNG.
