They put out the V to compete with the Strat…the Les Paul was a traditional guitar for jazz players…it is shaped like an acoustic guitar…it became a rock and roll staple because of how great they sound…the Strat was a pure rock and roll gutiar that doesn’t look anything like an acoustic so Gibson had to compete even though it doesn’t have the Les Paul’s sustain..it doesn’t sound as good…but it looks cool!

Shannon, if remember correctly, do you play a BC Rich Mockingbird? I love the body shape of the Mockingbird!

Yes, I still have it in storage…it’s a 70’s Rich but the owner before me put a Kahler on it, which I don’t use, and it has that preamp built in it but I don’t use that either…it has DiMarzios, which sound great…it’s funny that it’s neck heavy but once you get used to it ..it was my stage guitar for years, it’s very playable and looks so cool it makes up a lot for me looking like such a dork up there…..but the guitar I play now at home is Michael Angelo Batio’s MAB IV…..what a great value for 300 bucks…nice wide fingerboard, quality build, solid electronics, and a Floyd Rose..again, only 300…i had to get it, just insane bang for your buck there.
