Adrian Peel of Digital Journal spoke with our namesake Mr. Trunk. Select quotes from the feature appear below.
Who would Eddie like to have on That Metal Show who’s not been on before?
“Artists I want and what the audience wants might not always be the same thing. I like to give the lesser known guys a shot, but the network always wants the main stars of major bands. We have a good balance. Guys we’ve never had on that are often requested are Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, James Hetfield, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Ozzy… Our door is wide open. For many it’s just a matter of schedule or they aren’t comfortable doing TV but love the show. For a few, they just have issues.”
People often say that they don’t want to meet their heroes as they believe they’ll be disappointed (especially if said hero has “issues”), yet Eddie Trunk has met a number of his. What’s his view on this idea of maintaining a certain “mystique” between artist and fan?
“I understand it and it’s not a bad idea… There are some people I have met over the decades that have had me sour on them because of their behavior. But anyone can have a bad day and fans have to remember that. You also have to remember these guys are constantly getting hammered by fans for stuff and sometimes it becomes over the top, especially if out eating or with family. I’ve seen many fans behave great when they approach celebs and others act way out of line and deserve to be blown off, so it does work both ways.”

Personally I’m not looking forward to new TMS shows anymore. Lately the show just recycles the same guests season after season, with one or two new ones thrown into the mix. And with all the segments taking up time, such as the Top 5, Stump the Trunk, and Metal Modem, there’s just not enough time to properly interview the guests, especially when there’s more than one.
Aaron, you are nuts! TMS rules.
guest guitarist: Buckethead
x2. Yes! Absolutely!!
Off topic I know. Saw Judas Priest last Saturday night. Stellar show! Rob looked and sounded great, the best I’ve seen him in about 20 years! Richie killed it on stage as well. Yes he’s no KK, but Richie has certainly lit a fire up the Priest’s ass. Played about 90 minutes, same set list as all their previous shows on this tour. Great to hear some songs they haven’t performed in awhile (Devil’s Child, Love Bites, Jawbreaker). Only negative about the show was the embarrassment that is Steel Panther. They absolutely SUCKED! Yeah I know they’re a parody ’80s hair metal band, but what an absolute disaster. After the first two songs I waited out their set outside on the concourse downing a couple of beers. Why Priest couldn’t pick a better opening band I’ll never know. Hell Priest needs no opening band. I would had preferred a 90 minute show than have to endure an hour of Shit Panther!
Seen them in Dallas Thur. and it was awesome !
Priest sounds amazing…he Metal God sounds just as amazzzzzing…..unlike a certain other singer Rob still has the chops. Don’t see him losing it for quite awhile
Good stuff gents. I just saw the Mighty Priest in Atlanta a couple weeks ago and Medved hit it on the nose…Rob hit a bit of the fountain of youth! I saw them on the British Steel Tour and the Epitaph tour and he looks, sings and moves around now better than on those tours. It was a pleasure to watch along side Richie, who is a great addition.
As much as I love the Priest, I was not crazy about Panther either….the goofy antics and lyrics are not my cup of tea.
Defend the Faith!
Saw them in Florida, and I have the exact response…STEEL PANTHER Blows….Priest was great
Get Chris percussionist of Slipknot on fans would be suprised.
Bands like Slipknot don’t belong on vh1classic, they belong on FUSE or some other crap channel. Keep vh1classic CLASSIC.
Jake E. Lee was a gift for me when he was on!!! Thanks,Eddie for asking him to come on the show.
