As previously reported, Original KISS drummer, Peter Criss will be special guest on this Saturday’s (March 22nd) episode of That Metal Show.
In the preview clip posted below, as transcribed by blabbermouth.net, Criss explains how he found out about KISS’ Rock Hall induction and he expressed how heartbroken he is that we won’t be performing at the event.
“I got a call from [KISS leaders] Gene [Simmons] and Paul [Stanley], which I hadn’t got a call from them in many, many, many, many, many moons, including when I had my cancer,” Criss said. “And so, all of a sudden, I get a call and I’m being congratulated. ‘We’re gonna have fun.’ And I’m thinking… And I know, as I wrote in my book, there’s a lot of bad blood, and I just don’t trust [those guys] anymore. And I took it with a grain of salt and said, ‘Maybe.’ But then again, I had to go back and read the book myself and go, ‘What, are you crazy? Nothing’s changing. It doesn’t matter what goes on. Something’s gonna happen.’ And I said to [my wife], ‘It sounds too good to be true.'”
He continued: “The fact that we’re not perfoming is heartbreaking. I wanted to. I thought we were going to. I was all up for it. I was crazy enough to think, even if I had to get back in the ‘Cat’ outfit, I would have been proud to do it. Because, whether in or out of makeup, I’ll always be the ‘Catman.'”

Plus Peter has this rare gift, stay with me here, his songs are actually full of irony. You can’t tell if he’s bragging, or if he’s really lamenting. That is something no one else in Kiss has, and it worked so well when it was contrasted with the other 3; like say, one of Gene’s songs about his latest mission of conquest, or him burning a bridge or whatever.
If Peter could have gotten Ezrin to produce his 1978 solo record….
Yes, if that would have happened, none of those horrible songs would have made the record.
That record only has one bad song on it, ‘You Matter to Me.” He gets quite the rolling good time going on the rest of it, But Ezrin would’ve gotten Peter on the radio, and gotten a much better record out of him.
Yep. Nothing is ever Pete’s fault. Poor Pete.
LOL
Yes Peter you are the only Catman! Just like Gene is the only Demon and Paul is the only Starchild and Ace is the only Spaceman and Eric is the only Fox.
And whatever the fuck Vinny Vincent was.
Hahahahahaha. Oh man….You just made my day. Love Vinny, but your post was right on. Cheers man.
Ahnk or ankh: Egyptian god, vinny Vincent’s personna.
real nice gene & paul, you couldn’t even give peter a call after you found out that he had cancer? after hearing this, I’m sure most kiss fans are sickened & disappointed more than ever by the two of you. how could you not call him? why? are you that bitter & shallow to forget how to be human? whatever peter did in your eyes that was so bad, true real or not, is nothing compared to what you gene & paul didn’t do! if either of you got that kind of news (cancer) I’m sure peter & ace would call you and be supportive, something the two of you apparently forgot how to be!
Why, exactly, does everyone automatically assume the worst about Gene and Paul, and automatically assume the best about the two proven unreliable life-long substance abusers, and just assume they are telling the truth?
As soon as that lawsuit came out – supposedly by Eric Carr’s family – everyone slammed G&P as scumbags but lo and behold, they were actually telling the truth. Go figure.
I’ve met three of the four original members (Gene, Paul, and Ace) and BY FAR the biggest tool of the three was Ace. He was wasted, rude, and obnoxious. Paul, meanwhile, was by far the coolest celebrity I’ve ever met. Sober, polite, humble. Gene the same way (though a little more aloof).
Good post, Bill.
I agree.
