Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell’s cancer has returned – but he insists he’s not concerned at the development.
He got the all-clear in November after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the beginning of last year.
Now he’s undergoing more treatment ahead of his band’s US tour with KISS, and it means he’s missed songwriting sessions with the band.
Campbell tells Gater 98.7: “I’m doing good. It seems to be kind of coming back. But I’m not concerned about it – I mean, it’s just a process. It always was a little touch-and-go. I need to get a handle on it so I’m free and clear to tour this summer. All good.”
He recently hailed fellow cancer victim Wilko Johnson for continuing to work through his illness, saying: ” I always suspected that Wilko was too tough for that pussy-assed cancer shit. Turns out I was right.”
Meanwhile, former UFO bassist Pete Way has reported he’s starting to recover from radiotherapy for prostate cancer. He says: “I’ll get the result as to whether it’s worked in a couple of months, so it’s a waiting game now.
“I’m still on hormone therapy and I can’t wait to stop that so I can get back to my normal shape and size. Provided I’m given the all-clear I’ll be going flat-out to release my new album Walking On The Edge and get back on the road, where I belong.”

Had the pleasure of meeting him at a Last In Line show last October. A true gentleman…GodSpeed Viv
I’m a Hodgkin’s cancer survivor since 1990, was 28 when diagnosed. I appreciate Vivian being upbeat and nonchalant about his cancer returning, but to those who care about him, cancer returning after a full course of treatment generally means his chances of long term survival are less the second time around in being treated than others whose cancer didn’t return after an initial full course of treatment. Not to be a downer, but from my personal experience, it’s more of a blow than he’s letting on. I remember my own doctors telling me years ago my survival chances were less if it came back after an initial full couse of treatment. Send your prayers for him.
God bless you Rich,
I hope that you are well and that Vivian’s prognosis will improve despite the setback.

Owen,
Wow, that’s a pretty harsh statement. Unless the person is Hilter, or someone of that ilk, no one deserves Cancer.
I would worry a bit about the Karma train after that comment.

Owen, that is brutal. I hope those are words you do not regret someday.
Well Owen, I suppose that you are an expert on the relationship of Vivian Campbell and RJD. You were there when the deals and promises were being made. There are two sides to every story. I don’t know the truth and neither do you I suspect. But I do know that both were/are good men who had a misunderstanding that couldn’t be resolved for whatever reason. Both moved on and were successful.
Vivian- I wish you good health and hope you beat this thing.
Owen, I hope you are bitten by the fleas of a thousand camels.
I truly wish Vivian nothing but good health – but – I’ve noticed the Kiss/Def Leppard tour is not selling very well at all. It just makes wonder if this will be their outlet to cancel shows because of Vivian’s ‘poor health’. Hope not.
