CALIFORNIA BREED POST VIDEO FOR “THE WAY” ONLINE, BASSIST GELNN HUGHES DISCUSSES HEART SURGERY

California Breed and its self-titled new album and near and dear to Glenn Hughes’ heart.

Literally.

The heavy rocking trio — which also includes Black Country Communion bandmate Jason Bonham and 23-year-old guitarist Andrew Watt — recorded its 12-track debut at producer Dave Cobb’s Nashville studio last December, after Hughes went through heart surgery less than four months prior to replace his aortic valve, and survived subsequent near-fatal complications.

“For some reason I wasn’t frightened. I felt like I was going to be OK, but I’m still supremely grateful to be here,” Hughes, whose doctors had been watching his aorta since he got sober in 1991, tells Billboard. “For me to still be doing this at my age (62) with what I’ve been through with drink and drugs…There was a time everyone was putting best on me, ‘Ah, Hughes is gonna be the first to go.’ But he’s still here.”

The Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Trapeze veteran says the episode made an impact on some of California Breed‘s tracks, notably All Falls Down and Breathe.

“I’m singing about life and death, if you will, and what goes on in between,” Hughes notes. “I don’t write about fiction. I’m a human condition guy.” One song not on the album, however, is one he wrote in a particularly vivid dream with Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan — so vivid Hughes later found the lyrics written on his bedroom wall. “I’ve never met Dave Gahan,” Hughes says now. “I was telling my manager, ‘You’ve got to call his manager,’ and he’s going, ‘Yeah, sure…’ God knows how (Gahan) got into it, but that’s how dark and strange my recovery became.”

BON JOVI TO CELEBRATE 30 YEARS WITH AN EXTENSIVE “NEW JERSEY” REISSUE

Bon Jovi will celebrate 30 years with a massive catalog reissue campaign that begins July 1st with a remastered edition of their 1988 album, New Jersey, reports Jon Blistein of Rolling Stone.

The two-disc deluxe edition will feature three bonus songs initially released as B sides, as well as 13 previously unreleased demos from the New Jersey recording sessions that were originally intended to appear on a double-LP titled Sons of Beaches. The deluxe edition will also come with a 32-page booklet filled with insider commentary on the bonus cuts and rare photos from the New Jersey recording sessions and ensuing world tour.

Meanwhile, the super deluxe edition includes a 60-page softcover book and the behind-the-scenes documentary, Access All Areas: A Rock & Roll Odyssey, directed by Wayne Isham, who chronicled Bon Jovi’s 16-month, 26-country New Jersey world tour, including their legendary show at Lenin Stadium in Moscow. The footage was initially released in 1990 on VHS, and this marks the first time it will appear on DVD. It includes the seven music videos Isham directed for New Jersey as extras.

Bon Jovi promised to release more 30th anniversary material this year, including new collections of studio and live recordings.

JOHN 5 TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE “THIS IS MY RIFLE” ON JUNE 17TH

John 5 announces the release of his new single This Is My Rifle, from his upcoming album Careful With That Axe through 60 Cycle Hum. This Is My Rifle will be available digitally on June 17th everywhere digital music is available.

With rapid-fire, machine-gun riffs, anthemic sweeps and John 5’s blistering fast six string assaults, This Is My Rifle is the first single from John 5’s new album and features Rodger Carter on drums and Matt Bissonette on bass.

GOSSIP SITE REPORTING THAT GUNS N’ ROSES IS CALLING IT QUITS AS FRONTMAN AXL ROSE CONSIDERS RETIRING

Gossip website Radar Online reports:

Legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses are set to split, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

The band, who first formed in Los Angeles in 1985 and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, will call it a day after their Las Vegas residency wraps up June 7th.

“Band members have been told their calendars are free following Vegas,” a source close to the band tells RadarOnline. “Axl (Rose) is considering retiring and it’s done. Band members and support staff were surprised when told the news and are actively looking for work.”

Front man Rose, 52, is the only remaining member of the original band with lead guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, drummer Steven Adler and rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin having all left the band over the years.

“Axl has made enough money and wants to stop touring,” adds another source. “He is considering retiring.”

Along with Rose the current members are bass player Tommy Stinson, Dizzy Read on keyboards and percussion, lead guitarist DJ Ashba, Frank Ferrer on drums, Chris Pitman on keyboards and rhythm guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal.

The band begin their residency May 21st playing nine dates at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

Guns N’ Roses are one of the world’s best selling bands of all time having sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

LED ZEPPELIN LISTENING EVENT STREAMING FROM PARIS, MAY 21ST, WITH SPECIAL GUEST JIMMY PAGE

Jimmy Page will be on hand as a special guest at L’Olympia in Paris on Wednesday, May 21st to premiere unreleased companion audio for the upcoming deluxe editions of the first three Led Zeppelin albums. The event begins at 2:30PM ET and will be streamed live at this link.

L’Olympia first hosted Led Zeppelin for a live concert on October 10th, 1969, which is featured as the companion audio on the upcoming Deluxe Edition of the band’s debut album.

John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Page and Robert Plant came together in 1968 as Led Zeppelin. Over the next decade, the band would become one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, selling more than 300 million albums worldwide. Their songs are some of the most celebrated in rock ‘n’ roll history that, to this day, resonate with fans young and old around the globe. Still, no matter how many times you may have listened to their music, you’ve never heard Led Zeppelin like this before.

With the June 3rd release of deluxe editions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III, the band will launch an extensive reissue program of all nine of its studio albums in chronological order, each remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. Led Zeppelin will also open its vaults to share dozens of unheard studio and live recordings, with each album featuring a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.

Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III will each be available June 3rd from Atlantic/Swan Song in the following formats:

• Single CD – Remastered album packaged in a gatefold card wallet.
• Deluxe Edition (2CD) – Remastered album, plus a second disc of unreleased companion audio.

JUDAS PRIEST TO HEADLINE THE FUN, FUN, FUN FEST IN AUSTIN, TEXAS IN THE FALL

The 9th annual Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin line-up was announced May 20th and heavy metal legends Judas Priest will be one of the headliners. The festival is scheduled for November 7th-9th at Auditorium Shores and Butler Park.

This will be the Rob Halford-led band’s first time in the Texas capital in 25 years and will follow the release of their new studio album Redeemer of Souls, out July 8th on Epic Records.

Lineups for two additional stages — for comedy and sports — will be announced later. Tickets go on sale today, May 20th, at funfunfunfest.com.
