ACE FREHLEY CRACKS THE U.S. TOP 10 WITH HIS NEW COVERS ALBUM, “ORIGINS: VOL. 1”

Ace Frehley has cracked the U.S. top 10 with his latest effort Origins: Vol. 1 charting at number one on the Billboard Hard Music Chart, number three on the Billboard Rock chart and number six on the Billboard Current chart selling 16k units in its first week of release according to Nielsen Soundscan. Origins: Vol.1 and its success serves as the follow up to Space Invader, which debuted at number nine on the Top 200 Chart in 2014, the same year Ace Frehley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with KISS.

The space Ace also confirms today, for the first time, that his all new music video for Fire and Water will feature his former band mate and KISS’ co founding frontman Paul Stanley, and will be released Wednesday, April 27th, coincidentally Frehley’s 65th birthday.

The music video holds its place in rock and roll history as the first time in 14 years that Ace Frehley and Paul Stanley shared a stage since KISS’ appearance at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. It’s also the first time Frehley has released a music video since 1989, which was Frehley’s cover of Do Ya by ELO and The Move.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Frehley released Origins Vol. 1, a collection of 12 newly recorded classics from Ace’s formative years featuring some of the biggest names in rock and roll on April 15th. This collaboration marks the first time that Ace and Paul appear on the same studio recording since KISS’ 1998 reunion album Psycho Circus.

Other guests on Ace’s album include: Slash trading leads on Thin Lizzy’s classic Emerald, Lita Ford singing and playing lead on The Troggs staple Wild Thing, Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 playing guitar alongside Ace as he sings his classic KISS composition Parasite for the very first time, as well as Jimi Hendrix’s Spanish Castle Magic, and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready also plays guitar with Ace as he finally sings his KISS Alive! mainstay Cold Gin.

3. Spanish Castle Magic (Jimi Hendrix) *John 5

L.A. GUNS’ PHIL LEWIS ONSTAGE COMMENTS DEEMED “RACIST”

L.A. Guns frontman Phil Lewis has caused controversy by saying that “black people are all one-dimensional.”

The band were onstage at the Fish Head Cantina in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 22nd when he made the comment. The outburst came as he attempted to praise the life and music of Prince, who died aged 57 on April 21st.

Lewis recalled L.A. Guns’ early days, when they played First Avenue in Minneapolis – the club where much of Prince film Purple Rain was shot in 1984.

He told the crowd, “I remember when we were working on Cocked And Loaded, we were on tour, and they said there was a venue that we could play in Minnesota – First Avenue.

I didn’t know too much about it at the time, but after I saw the movie, I got it. We were all into that Prince, right? It was so cool, because you had your heavy s–t, and you had the pop s–t – and there was Prince doing his own f–king thing.

The problem is, right now – and I’m not gonna be a racist about it – but black people are all one-dimensional. We need more Princes.

We need less f–king rappers and more people like Prince. There, I said it.”

Lewis later moved to clarify his comments in a Facebook post which has since been removed, saying he was simply attempting to broaden the debate on rap music.

He told Metal Sludge, “It seems I have ruffled a few PC feathers with my onstage comment from Friday’s show. I stand by my words and make no apology for my observations. Perhaps “black media” would have been a better choice of words than “black people.”

“I was just thinking about the AA family who recently moved in the house next to mine. They’re all very nice but it’s obvious that they’re drinking the gangsta rap or hoops mentality Kool Aid – is that racist as well?

My solution has been to provide and teach the two 10 year olds basic guitar with the hope it will broaden their horizons as it did mine. Don’t expect there will be a new Prince anytime soon but damn sure there will be countless rappers spouting the “money and dos” moronic nonsense that does the black community no favors at all.”

He added, “I’m sure there are plenty of multi-dimensional brilliant musicians out there but not likely to hear about them on mainstream black media. Shame. More Princes, less rappers.”

THE WHO’S ROGER DALTREY COMMENTS ON AXL/DC AND SAYS, “GIVE ME A BREAK”

Jane Stevenson of IFP.com asked The Who’s Roger Daltrey what he thinks of Axl Rose being the guest singer on AC/DC’s tour.

Daltrey replied, “I mean I really feel badly for Brian [Johnson]. It must be heartbreaking for him after all the service he’s given that band over the years. I thought their farewell statement to the press, and to Brian, was fairly curt to say the least. I felt for him. That must have hurt. I’ve spoken to Brian. He’s got loads of other things he wants to do in his life. I think AC/DC will miss Brian much more than Brian will miss AC/DC. There you go. What do you expect from Australians? (laughs) … And he’s such a lovely guy, Brian. I’ve known him for 40 odd years, more. … I mean, go and see karaoke with Axl Rose? Give me a break. (Laughs).

When asked how his hearing is holding up, the singer said, “My hearing’s dreadful. We’re all going deaf. We’re all wearing hearing aids. No it’s true. I suggest to everybody over the age of 50 that have been going to loud concerts for years and years and years, go and have your hearing tested. You’d be surprised what you’re missing. It’s unbelievable. Most people over the age of 60 are lip-reading. (Jokes) And it’s all our fault!”
