BRIAN JOHNSON’S AC/DC UPDATE: “IT LOOKS LIKELY WE WILL BE ON THE ROAD BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR”

BrianJohnson AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson posted a news update on his car-racing website by writing that he would need to take a break from his U.K. TV series Cars That Rock in the near future due to “the slight distraction of my day job with AC/DC.” Adding, “It looks very likely that we will be on the road again before the end of the year….Stand by for more music.”

Back in April of this year, the band made an official announcement that it would be moving forward on a new album without one of its founding members, rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who would be “taking a break from the band due to ill health.”

  1. Have loved this band for most of my life. I just don’t understand why they need to record without Malcolm. Is anyone waiting with bated breath for new AC/DC music, that can’t wait a while longer? Record company obligations are very important, I get it. But this reminds me of when Kiss did “Revenge” while Eric Carr was ill and pretty much dying. The world can wait. If Def Leppard waited for Rick, there’s really no excuse. If Malcolm cannot be in the band anymore, then just wait until he decides that. What’s the big rush? Where’s the fire? Kiss’ situation was by far the tackiest. “Ooh, look everybody! Right after that monumental fart known as Hot In The Shade, everybody is just waiting on pins and needles for the next Kiss record! Will sell like gangbusters!” Dumb.

    1. You had to involve KISS. You couldn’t control yourself. What if Malcolm wants the band to continue? Financially, he will always profit from AC/DC. I’m sure he will have writing credits on this album. There aren’t always evil financial motives behind everything. Angus is his brother.

    2. Except that KISS can’t hold AC/DC’s jock strap. AC/DC is one of the most popular bands in rock and roll history…there are millions of people waiting for more music. To compare them to KISS (who can’t fill a “barn” without a touring partner is ludicrous. The band is recording with Stevie Young, Angus and Malcolm’s nephew. They toured with him taking Malcolm’s place once before when Malcolm was in rehab for alcoholism. You can bet that Malcolm gave his thumbs up to this or it wouldn’t be happening, because when all is said and done it has always been and still is Malcolm’s band.

I expect their album will be fantastic, and they will sell out arena’s worldwide once again when they go out on tour later this year. Everyone knows this will probably be their last go-around, and it will be a huge success.

    3. He can’t play and won’t be returning anytime soon and he encouraged them to go on…and yes they do need to hurry up and record because between recording and setting up the tour it will be a several year commitment and they are in their late 60’s…as far as Kiss and Eric Carr, they didn’t do what you said…get your facts straight, Erc Carr died before Revenge, they didn’t do that album while he was dying and just moved on as you eluded…Revenge also went either Gold or Platinum,so it sold well, also as you incorrectly say…what ACDC are doing is nothing more than Sabbath going on without Bill Ward…

    4. George, way to marginalize Malcolm. He is a big creative force of the band that he founded. Two things that don’t apply to Bill Ward (I dig Ward’s drumming style but Malcolm to AC/DC is much more important than Ward to Sabbath).

    5. What are you talking about??? Can you read!! He can’t play because he is I’ll and told them to go ahead without him…how am I marginalizing Malcolm?? And you must not be a musician which is ok, but to say Bill Ward isn’t important to Sabbath makes you sound ridiculous…Huge ACDC fan so not sure what your point is…I was not comparing Ward to Malcolm, but saying both Ward and Malcolm are sick and unable to perform…it’s not just reading but interpreting which I guess you have a hard time with…

    6. Malcolm has more value to AC/DC than Ward to Sabbath. I never said Bill Ward wasn’t important to Sabbath, but Malcolm is more valuable as a band member due to his song writing ability. And you complained about my reading comprehension (eye roll).

    7. George, What would become Revenge was in the works scheduling wise for Kiss. They “had” to go and do another album, and using Singer on GGRARTY2 was the start. Eric Carr absolutely knew what was on the Kiss itinerary concerning timeline/recording. He saw the writing on the wall. And I realize Malcolm probably gave his ok to have his nephew replace him on tour, etc (I actually saw them with Stevie on a tour years ago), but my point was, what’s the damned rush? We would all rather see Malcolm with the band, and the band knows this. So if Malcolm is not going to be touring and recording anymore with AC/DC, then all I am saying is, make it official.

    8. Joe…I hear ya…BUT, you and I will never know the circumstances behind the scenes…What I am saying is Malcom must’ve told them to go ahead and some are insinuating the band is just moving forward like it is a devious plan, when in fact from everything I heard from their own mouths is they are not “hurrying along” to exclude him, but maybe they have been trying to record for a few years and he hasn’t been well and he finally told them to go on…not saying that’s what happened, but again, we will never know. I just think they are all too classy to just forget a guy like some suggest…as far as Kiss, I just don’t believe Paul and Gene are nearly as devious as you may…Yes it is true Revenge was being written, but as with all the Ace and Peter talk on this site as if they are saints, it just seems that a lot of people always go for every move a they make being labeled devious…it is happening on here with Judas Priest…KK left and gave his blessing to go on, but some are saying its a money grab to go on…I am in a band as a hobby and yes we write our own music and are not known so I am not comparing my band to say Judas Priest or ACDC, but in our little band there has been moments where we had to move on from a key member and it isn’t easy, so if you are a famous band, you really have to go for moves that make you happy and sometimes that isn’t the moves the fans want. I just don’t see anything wrong with ACDC going on for now, or forever without Malcolm if he can’t continue…my opinion…

  2. Back in 1980, after Bon Scott passed, everybody (including myself) thought AC/DC was done, but then came Brian Johnson, and then came Back In Black, and the magic was back! Every time it appears Ac/DC is done, something sparks a comeback. I hope as much as anybody Malcolm gets healthy and can rejoin the band, but if he can’t, I’m sure with his blessing, the power of AC/DC will Ride On once again.

    1. Great point…Bon was the face of the band, lead singer, and they found a way to go on…not saying Malcolm is dying, but Zepplin retired after Bonham died, whereas ACDC has kept it going for years after Bon…Hell, 2days after John Entwistle died the Who played a show, but took time off when Moon died so each situation is different and ACDC can do what they want…They are a total class act…
