JOE SATRIANI’S “G4 EXPERIENCE 2016” WILL TAKE PLACE IN LONG ISLAND, N.Y. DURING THE SUMMER AND WILL FEATURE GUITARISTS ERIC JOHNSON, ALEX SKOLNICK, MIKE KENEALLY AND STEVE VAI

joesatriani Guitarist Joe Satriani has posted the following message at his official website:

“I’ve got something very cool in store for you next year. It’s also something we haven’t done yet with the G4 Experience.

The G4 Experience in 2016 will literally take me back home. In the past two years, we did this up in beautiful Cambria, CA. However, we started looking at the East Coast for a variety of cool reasons.

When the idea of Long Island came up, I thought it would be interesting because of the obvious connection. Funny enough, Glen Cove Mansion, where we’ll be August 8th-12th, 2016, is very close to where I’m from. Once we chose the spot, the 2016 G4 Experience took on a very special meaning. We never repeat the same formula, but this homecoming really helped us reshape next year’s camp.

Obviously, I grew up in Westbury, Long Island, but there’s more to it than that. When I was a 14-year-old budding guitar player, I started my career at high school dances in the surrounding towns. At 16, I was playing bars in the area. At 17, I was doing weekend road trips to The Hamptons and performing at the clubs there.

My whole musical foundation-even starting on the drums at the age of nine-centers around that area. I have so many family and friends there. Steve Vai and I became best friends back in high school. There’s just this special concentration of likeminded guitar players.

Now, we’re inviting you into that circle…

At the end of the day, we all love connecting with other musicians. We want this to be fun, but we’ll transfer the most information you could ever get. This is our chance to grow together as players.

Of course, we’ll be performing every night. It’s like the performance we’d do anywhere around the world. The only difference is it’s super intimate. I can happily say that this is a huge leap forward from the typical guitar clinic experience. I love that!”

Joining Joe at the The G4 Experience will be Eric Johnson, Mike Keneally, Alex Skolnick and special guest appearance by Steve Vai.

SCOTT WEILAND’S FORMER STP AND VELVET REVOLVER RELEASE SYMPATHY MESSAGES REGARDING THE SINGER’S TRAGIC PASSING

scottweiland640 After news of singer Scott Weiland’s passing broke, his former bandmates, in both Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, have released condolence messages.

Velvet Revolver band members, guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Dave Kushner, wrote:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of our old friend and bandmate, Scott Weiland. We experienced a good chunk of life with Scott, and even in his darkest times, we all had hope and love for him. His artistry will live on, of that there is no doubt. Deepest condolences and sadness are for his children, Noah and Lucy. We all traveled around this world together on tour; our band, wives, and kids… and we grew to a big family that still remains to this day. It’s just so sad and brutal from any perspective.

Rest in peace, Scott.”

Stone Temple Pilots band members have written the following letter:

“Dear Scott,

Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us.

Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories.

The memories are many, and they run deep for us.

We know admist the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again.

It’s what made you who you were.

You were gifted beyond words, Scott.

Part of that gift was part of your curse.

With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go.

All of our love and respect.

We will miss you brother,

Robert, Eric, Dean”

Weiland

Weiland passed away in his sleep on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota. The singer is survived by his wife, Jamie Wachtel, whom he wed in 2013, and two children, Noah and Lucy, that he had with his ex-wife Mary Forsberg. He was also married to Janina Castaneda throughout most of the Nineties.

FORMER STONE TEMPLE PILOTS AND VELVET REVOLVER SINGER SCOTT WEILAND DEAD AT AGE 48

scottweiland640 Scott Weiland, the former lead singer of a number of rock bands, including Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, died in his sleep Thursday night. He was 48.

A message on Weiland’s official Facebook page said he had died in Bloomington, Minn. while on tour a tour stop with his latest band, Scott Weiland and The Wildabouts. The Associated Press reported the band was scheduled to play a concert in nearby Medina Thursday. The venue’s website showed the concert had been canceled.

Weiland’s manager, Tom Vitorino, told the Associated Press he had learned of Weiland’s death from the singer’s tour manager, but did not provide further details.

TMZ obtained an audio tape of first responders reporting to the scene of Weiland’s death. In the tape, the first responders state Weiland was dead upon their arrival.

Weiland fronted one of the most successful grunge bands of the 1990s in Stone Temple Pilots, but was also dogged by problems with substance abuse throughout his career.

Stone Temple Pilots’ 1992 debut, Core, has sold more than 8 million units in the United States. Their hits include Vasoline, Interstate Love Song and Plush, which won a Grammy in 1993 for best hard rock performance with vocal.

Amid the successes, Weiland had a long string of drug and alcohol related arrests and stints in rehab. In 1995, he was arrested after deputies found him carrying crack and heroin. He pleaded guilty to felony heroin possession in 1998. And his arrests for drug possession and stints in rehab led the Stone Temple Pilots to cancel tour dates and contributed to their 2003 breakup.

After the band split, Weiland joined former Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum and former Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner to form the supergroup Velvet Revolver. Weiland departed Velvet Revolver in 2008 to join the reunited Stone Temple Pilots.

“The story’s not finished,” Weiland told The Associated Press at the time. “There’s more to be revealed and more to be told.”

But in February 2013, Stone Temple Pilots announced on its website that Weiland had been fired from the band. In a statement to FOX411 at the time, Weiland said, “Not sure how I can be ‘terminated’ from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out.”

In 2011, Weiland released his autobiography,Not Dead & Not For Sale. The title was taken from the lyrics of Trippin’ On A Hole In A Paper Heart, one of Stone Temple Pilots’ best-known songs.

Slayer - 2015 In support of Repentless, the band’s 12th studio album and its career-highest chart debut, Slayer will launch 2016 by pillaging and marauding its way across North America, headlining some two-dozen dates over a five-week period. With Special Guests Testament and Carcass on all dates, the tour starts on February 19th in Chicago and wraps up in Las Vegas on March 26th. Confirmed dates are below. Slayer’s Fan Club pre-sale begins today at 12 noon local time, details are slatanicwehrmacht.com. Twenty-fifteen has proven to be a pretty darned good year for Slayer. Ignoring the odds and naysayers, the band – Kerry King/guitars, Tom Araya/bass, vocals, Paul Bostaph/drums, and touring guitarist Gary Holt – wrote, recorded and released its first album since the death of founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman, and first with producer Terry Date. As a member of The Big Four, Slayer didn’t just help define the thrash-metal genre, Slayer defines an attitude.

For this upcoming tour, fans can expect to hear many of their favorite Slayer songs selected from the band’s 30-plus year discography, as well as a few of the brand new ones. As the Austin Chronicle put it about one of Slayer’s recent shows, “[It was] one hundred minutes of just plain pummel…the group delivered fast, hard, no-frills bludgeon.”
