According to blabbermouth.net, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian has defended KISS’ Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons for their announcement that no members of KISS will be playing at the April 10th Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in Brooklyn.
Speaking to Rover’s Morning Glory, a syndicated hot-talk/comedy radio show airing weekday mornings on Cleveland rock station WMMS (100.7 FM), Ian joked, “Look, I’ve got Gene Simmons tattooed on my leg, so whatever Gene says is what goes.”
He continued, “I’m a [KISS] fan, just like everyone else, and would I wanna see, if I was going… I’m not going to the Hall Of Fame thing, so would I wanna see the four original dudes back in makeup one more time? Of course I would, as a fan. But bands don’t do things dictated by what the audience wants. A band would last about a year if that’s how you worked. You have to do things the way you wanna do them.
KISS has been around for 40 years and are bigger now than they were in 1977 because Gene and Paul make smart decisions — that’s why. So, as a fan, and if you love them, you have to abide by the decisions that Gene and Paul are making for their brand and their band. So, why people get so upset over these things, I really don’t understand. Like, if they decided they were playing with [current KISS members] Tommy [Thayer, guitar] and Eric [Singer, drums], so fine. That’s what they’re doing. This is their band. This has been the lineup for a long time now.
I get it — those two guys [Tommy and Eric] aren’t the guys who are getting into the Hall Of Fame [with Paul and Gene], it’s Ace and Peter… you know, I get it. So I think they made the right decision now by saying, ‘We’re just not gonna play. You can’t please everybody. We’re just gonna shut it down and just not do it.’ I get it. I understand.”

scott ian – what a surprise siding with gene? this from a man who refused to take a picture with a fan unless i bought one of his ” homemade the damn things cds for fifteen bucks”? no wonder your heroes are nugent and gene the only artists like you who think running their mouths on tv and radio make them rich. it only makes their fans laugh and cringe. and thank you eddie , for talking about me on your show remember me i”m the fan who you thought i was a hater because i wrote constructive criticism i”m just a fan eddie, wiith an opinion, just like you .
Scott please, If Gene came to a sudden stop your nose would FOR SURE penetrate Genes asshole & proceed right through his pecker hole!! C’mon man, The Beatles are AND ALWAYS WILL BE bigger than KISS! Now my advice to Scott Ian……stop defending bullshit that isn’t true. The KISS of today is not even near as big as the 1970’s or The Reunion Tour. Last year KISS played The Turning Stone Casino near Syracuse, NY……LIL FYI, it was quite embarrassing for ticket sales, they played 6 Flags Darien Lake near Rochester, NY…..again piss poor ticket sales.
i was at the Turning Stone gig to Joe thats how my 3,000 seater comment came in. Turning stone is a 5,000 seater but with kiss’es stage being so huge it took out around 1,000 to 2,000 seats. Tickets were $100 to almost $150 unless you lucked out like i did and scored two tickets for $120 total and from where was i saw quite a few people found that deal too.Pauls voice lasted a total of 19 minutes before it really started to sound bad. the whole concert is posted on you tube look for it you can see all the empty seats.
I think what everyone is failing to realize is that Ace and especially Peter are incapable of performing right now. Compound that with Paul’s voice issues and the performance would be a nightmare. That to me is the main reason they chose not to perform. Peter and Ace are playing victim once again and painting Gene and Paul as the bad guys, when the two losers have only themselves to blame for where they are. I personally believe that all members past and present should be inducted. Especially Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr. It is absolutely absurd that Carr was not inducted. He was a million times better drummer that Criss and in the band longer.
If the RRHOF only put in guys with talent, the Grateful Dead will still be waiting for a phone call.
You may not like the Grateful Dead, but to doubt their talent is just stupid.
Which one was the talented one again? Please don’t say Garcia.
I’m still waiting Mr. McGee….
They were all talented. Maybe not your thing, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t talent. I don’t care for Slayer but I wouldn’t say they’re not talented.
The reality is, its about money and egos for Gene and Paul. They know by keeping Tommy and Eric in the band they don’t have to worry about them wanting equal split and recognition, they are too just settle for being in a band as a paid employer, that’s why Gene and Paul are saying its so much easier to work with Tommy and Eric, With Peter and Ace in the picture, they have to give in and share the spotlight which they don’t want to. They can’t just just throw that away and play for one night. It was will give closure for Ace and Peter. It will make the HOF happy am best of all it will please the fans. But nooo , they have to be stuck in their own selfish ways,
I predict the summer tour will have very poor attendance and lead to Gene and Paul finally calling it quits. Of course, they won’t admit their retirement is due to poor attendance or the fact that Paul’s voice is shot. They will say it’s ‘time’, blah, blah, blah.
