  1. It was ok. It sounded a bit stiff. The original is so laid back, it’s hard to hear it any other way. The 16th note shaker sound is a bit off putting. Not a great track.

  2. I like Steve Miller and the joker is one of my favorite miller song
I’m buy the CD when it comes out anyway. Sorry about the robin Williams comment but hell since that Gene story that was the second thing that I thought of after oh my God

  3. Covers have always been a safe bet for Record companies. Billy idol, Cindy Lauper, Bow Wow, Devo, Elton John, Joan Jett early Beatles and Stones, Van Halen, Metallica all have done them with success.

    1. True, but not too many of the songs they covered were as big or as well known as The Joker, even 40 years later! 🙂

    1. Correctamundo. Glad to have you back. God be with you. 2000 MAN is my favorite KISS song sung by him. I sampled the album and REDEEMER OF SOULS will be the album of this summer by far. Trunk is right about the title track but this album isn’t gonna be great.

    2. He needs a second singer. FREHLEY’S COMET worked well because of that. Ace is more of a cool guy that sings than a good singer. No range. 12 songs and they all sound the same unless your name is Johnny Cash. Tod Howarth, where are you? Who cares that you sound like Paul Stanley? ANOMALY suffered the same fate.

    3. Having signed Ace during the period you speak of I can tell you many did not want a different singer. Which is why for Trouble Walkin Richie Scarlett only sang a couple and Ace did the rest. Same with first album. Second Sighting is a Todd album because it had to be. Ace was not healthy then and is barely on it. Love his voice or not, people want to hear him sing.

    4. Thanks Richman, and Eddie who is that skinny guy running around? Good for you man. Back to Ace: I have always liked his voice, he sounds that kid who rolls into gym class 15 minutes late, reeking of pot, wearing two different colored sneakers, though I agree that having Howarth was a very unexpected chemistry: total underdogs who somehow win the big game. Hard to say, but no complaints on having only Ace at the mic. One thing about Ace’s music: he takes chances, he will go out on a limb musically, something that I miss in Kiss who are so micro-managed. Finally, how has it become Gene’s fault that people commit suicide? (I will never understand that, it’s going to happen anyway!)

    5. I agree that Ace’s music with a real lead singer would take it to the next level. Then it would actually be a great (in terms of the industry!) record that would get airplay. But: most people love Ace for what he does and is, so they expect his voice to be there. he has a signature voice, if that makes sense, just like his signature guitar tone. His tone is easily recognizable among others BECAUSE it is not that polished, Tommy is actually doing a very polished, technically perfected version of Ace’s licks, that is why we may apty say he is the better guitarist, but he is also – and for the same reasons – lacking character and soul big time. Probably people love Ace for his imperfections even if they are not aware of them, including his drug years and bad decisions, and because he has admitted it. Unlike others in the band who keep on selling the image of their perfect life and soul. Tod btw I thought was a great singer, and not at all sounding like Stanley.
