AC/DC’S MALCLOM YOUNG “REPORTEDLY” SUFFERING FROM DEMENTIA AND IN A NURSING HOME

ACDC Malcolm Young Germany 1992 31 Bernard Zuel of The Sydney Morning Herald reports:

It may be that dementia is claiming another giant, this time a musical one.

AC/DC co-founder, guitarist and songwriter Malcolm Young, whose retirement from the band was announced on Wednesday, has been moved into full-time care in a nursing home facility in Sydney’s eastern suburbs specializing in dementia, sources connected to the Young family have said.

The Young family connection said: “If you were in the room with [Malcolm Young] and walked out, then came back in one minute later, he wouldn’t remember who you are. He has a complete loss of short-term memory. His wife, Linda, has put him in full-time care.”

The first official word on what was assumed to be a serious and debilitating, but still undisclosed, illness, was in April when it was confirmed that Young would not be participating in the recording of the next AC/DC album, which will be called Rock Or Bust and is due out in November.

In his place during the recording sessions in a Vancouver studio has been his nephew, Steve.

In an announcement from the band’s management this week, it was revealed that Steve will join Angus Young, frontman Brian Johnson and drummer Phil Rudd on stage when the band embarks on another massive world tour in 2015.

Dementia and Alzheimers are claiming way too many. Just lost one family member, and another diagnosed. I hate this disease, and feel sad for Angus, his wife, family, friends, and the band. This is grabbing him quick. I think this is the most rapid I’ve seen. Good thoughts out to the Young family.

Lol I guess Angus really doesn’t give a rat’s ass about his brother, nor does the rest of the band. Ehhh screw him…. We’ll replace him and get back on the road. F – ing priceless!

Are you suggesting the band should shut it down? Are you also suggesting Angus doesn’t love his brother?

Ahh….the real stupidity by some on this forum is just amazing. Yeah Inquiring …Im most positive that is what Angus is thinking.

What a ridiculous thing to say. AC/DC lost one of the greatest lead singers of all time. Do you think Bon would have wanted them to end it there? He even had a hand in picking out Brian Johnson to replace him. AC/dc bounced back to create the 2nd biggest selling record of all time, of any genre. Do you think Malcolm would want the band to end and disappoint millions of fans all over the world? And to suggest Angus doesn’t give a rats ass about his brother is just beyond cruel. If you don’t like a band that’s one thing, but to make a senseless comment like that is just downright hurtful. God bless you Malcolm, and God bless Acdc!!!

Lol I knew that would stir the pot a bit.

      oooh you are so cool

    • James K. on

So what you’re saying is you posted that ridiculous statement for fun to “stir the pot a bit”? Do you have any idea how disrespectful that is to Malcolm and to AC/DC? You read how a genius musician’s life is forever changed by a horrible and debilitating disease and the millions who love him will never get to hear him play again and his bandmates and family are faced with the horror of seeing their beloved Malcolm go through that and you think it’s appropriate to post an idiotic statement because you think it’ll be funny? That’s the lowest of the low. How could you be so cruel? You need to be ashamed of yourself.

Hey, AC/DC was never the same since Dave Evans left the band!
