As previously reported, Van Halen will release a new boxed set this fall spotlighting the iconic band’s second incarnation, with singer Sammy Hagar, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, and bassist Michael Anthony. The upcoming set includes newly remastered versions of four multi-platinum studio albums, along with a selection of rarities recorded between 1988 and 2004.
The Collection II will be available on October 6th on 5 LPs and 5 CDs, as well as digitally. All the music in the set was mastered directly from the original master tapes, a process overseen by the band’s longtime engineer, Donn Landee. Pre-order here.
A newly remastered version of Crossing Over is available today for the first time digitally. Crossing Over was originally released as the B-side to Balance’s Can’t Stop Loving You, as well as a bonus track on the Japanese CD version, listen below.

Here come the Hagar haters!
This song is intriguing…
I can understand why this song was kept off of Balance, but it’s a real interesting track nevertheless. Ed was always saying in interviews that he recorded a lot of “weird” music that people would be surprised by but would never fit in any of their albums. I’m assuming the instrumental track of this song could fall in that category. I especially thought the Jimmy Page-esque Achilles Last Stand-ish multi-guitar tracks around the 3:40 point were really interesting and different from what you’d normally expect from Ed. The track is almost “progressive”!
Did anyone notice a callback to “Love Walks In” in Eddie’s melodic guitar riff? Like a darker take on it. Also, make sure you listen to this in stereo. Your phone speaker won’t do it justice. Big stereo soundscape to explore here.
Wow this song is about 5:06 to long .
