7/9: THE KISS NO ORIGINAL MEMBERS STORY.

Last night we posted a story in the news section that was sent to me via Twitter about Kiss replacing Gene and Paul and continuing on with a band of no original members. We later found out the original story was from 2008. While the haters will just attack and say it was calculated to further some insane anti – Kiss agenda (love how I am so anti Kiss and STILL PLAY ALL THEIR MUSIC, too funny!), I left it up for two reasons. One the amount of differing opinions on this generated in comments was interesting and ALL views were posted, and two this is still the plan and closer than ever to happening! If this is what they were planning 6 years ago it is really just around the corner now! Clearly the way they do it might be altered but this is still happening and the band has discussed it in the press even recently. So nothing has changed except for it is more imminent! I am hearing maybe two years away from launching at this point with the current (Gene and Paul) band having maybe one more run left after the current tour. What was stunning about this is how many saw it as major news they never heard? This has been talked about and discussed for a long time by Gene and Paul. So no mater where you fall on it I decided to leave it up because I found ALL sides of the reaction interesting and posted ALL response to it. Unlike some I respect and appreciate all opinions and they are represented here as well as my radio and TV shows. But to see this as some crazy dated story that is no longer the plan is not the case. Some may want to live in some fantasy land but all our heroes are getting older (so are we!) and how they handle the end of their careers will be interesting. Who really retires, who stuck around too long, who does bands with no original members. All good debate and all welcome here.

  1. Could just be the backlash you experienced had more to do with you dragging out a 6 year old article while not posting one article or blog about the tour, while ranting about every little has been rocker playing clubs, Oh King Diamond sold out a string of thousand seater, big news.Priest , Priest ,Priest, i love them ,but how many 4,000 seaters will they be playing.Wait for it , Ed will tell us , I’m big fan Ed, but your bias against them shows,
Sure as shit Paul and Gene will try and do this, how is a 6 year article news now during the tour ? Like I read someone else, it’s a no lose situation, if they try it and it succeeds, they created something that would last without them. If it fails, well KISS survive every kind of member change imaginable but didn’t survive without out them. I’ll cut it off now, as I’m sure there’s some late breaking news on another has been touring clubs. This comes from a long time fan,try reporting real news.

    1. Todd,

I apologize if this response sounds brusque, but if you don’t like what is being reported on the site, the it’s simple, don’t read it. Guess what? Maybe, some readers wouldn’t consider stories about KISS’ current tour interesting. For every one reader who might be enthusiastic about a certain band and/or topic, there will always be one that is disinterested or apathetic. It’s YOUR choice what you decide to do with the information presented to you.

  2. Its an interesting idea – Chris Squire hope Yes would continue as he said it like the London symphony – regardless of original participants. I’m not sure they could pull that off but KISS might on a small level at least.

  3. Like them or not Gene and Paul are amazing marketers and businessmen. When something becomes a brand as they have done with Kiss dating back to the 70’s it continually goes through evolutions. Look at Coke or Pepsi, different eras … different cans … different tastes. Still the same concept just a different manifestation. The retail and commodity markets are full of examples. When you think about it why can’t the product of “people” do the same thing? Its been a brilliant idea they have had to continue on with their “product” while continuing to control and profit from it. Hell, they will leave whatever incarnation of KIss is around when they die to their kids. I’m sure in some way shape or form the Stones have had to have the idea cross their minds. Maybe not to this scale with no make up to make people forget who’s behind it. Yes folks like it or not I’m sure Gene and Paul still enjoy their music but its always been a business venture for them as well, and in the free world that’s ok. I think the part that comes along with that though is you lose some hard core people along the way. I think this is why I still love to go to shows like M3 rock festival and see bands from the 80’s that never achieved a Kiss level of success when they come around. I think they still perform to make a living obviously but also because its still a musical passion. That shipped sailed many moons ago in the Kiss camp. I’m not a hater by the way and love every Kiss era. I’m just supporting Eddie’s point that this isn’t shocking. Its long been rumored and if you want your brand not to die when you do then follow this model. Rock on….

  4. I’ve been a Kiss fan for 38 years and I have supported every lineup. If there are no original members in the lineup, then it’s just a tribute band and I will be done with them.

  5. Like the founder of the company I work for once said, “If you don’t like the way I run this place, go fuck yourself.” I guess that’s why the place has been in business for over 75 years. Kiss is going to be run the way Gene and Paul want it to be run.
