Exclusive new late tonight. Ace Frehley called into my radio show live tonight and confirmed that he and Peter are being denied the opportunity to perform at the R&R Hall Of Fame ceremony by Gene and Paul, who will perform instead with the current band. Ace said (and the HOF confirmed to me directly) that the HOF wants the original band. However Gene and Paul to date have declined to allow this to happen. Ace said it was important he let the fans know exactly what was happening since tickets are about to go on sale to the public and he didn’t want fans to purchase them expecting a reunion performance even for a song or two. Ace said he is undecided if he will even attend in light of this decision. Even though the HOF would prefer the original band, they will not stand in the way of the current band playing if that is all Gene and Paul are willing to do. Assume anything is possible that something could change, but at this time there are no plans at all for Ace and Peter to play, or perhaps even be there depending what they decide. As I have said consistently when there was news to share I would let it come directly from a member, and tonight Ace let everyone know exactly what was going on. Said he was most upset for the fans who voted them in and were hoping to see a song or two, but also said it is now time to move on. He is working on a new album and said the stress was really killing him about the HOF and he needed to let fans know what was up before tickets went on sale. Peter will likely have a similar statement on his site tomorrow. I’ll continue to keep you posted as more info develops but that’s where things are at now. I’m sure the audio will be on YouTube of Ace’s call but you can hear the entire show next weekend as usual on all affiliate stations and online outlets as well. Sad day for long time Kiss fans but at least we know where things stand as of now. The producer/director for the HOF show Joel Gallen expressed an interest in coming on the air soon. Ace and Peter should go anyway. It would be very awkward for the other two to play while half their band is sitting at a table. Why make it easy on them?
Its hard for me, a TRUE diehard KISS fan to know exactly what reaction I have about all of this. First, I think the HOF is a joke. They might have changed their tune, but for a band like KISS to be denied entry for 15 years because they didn’t fall in the EXCLUSIVE MEMBERS category was a travesty. Paul was right. What kept KISS out was the same reason that got them in. I love ACE. But, to truly understand everything, we have to look at all sides. Are GENE and PAUL money hungry? What person isn’t. Was ACE and PETER continually on destructive mode while being members of KISS? Their personal testimonies supports that fact. Whatever bridges were burned throughout the years, GENE and PAUL probably don’t want to go down that road again. Ace was a drugged out, alcoholic and Peter (based on his book) self egoistical, taking no responsibility for how he acted in and out of the band. KISS is certainly on a down turn in their careers, but GENE and PAUL deserves to continue as long as they want. But, to have REPLACEMENT players performing is not right, or respectful to the fans and to ACE and PETER. Regardless of personal feelings. I’m sure they are afraid of continue rumors of another possible reunion, which I agree would be a mistake. But, if this for the fans, then treat it as such. As it as always been the case, the fans never really have the finally word… Only GENE and PAUL. If you want to honor us, then do it honorably. I think this whole event is going to blow up like the biggest explosion we’ve ever witnessed at a KISS concert.
Well I have to say I’m not surprised. I can’t believe that Gene can’t put aside his feelings and make us fans happy. To Gene and Paul…Do you realize that the fans are the ones that made you rich? Do you realize that the true fans want Ace & Peter? This performance could be the start of another reunion tour, which will make them millions! To Gene and Paul you can both KISS My Ass! To Ace and Peter May God bless you both, we the fans love ya both to death!!
Haha. If this happens, it’s hilarious. I think Tommy Thayer should practice his Bronx accent and Ace laugh. Maybe he can accept the award like Ace.
For those of you who just realized Gene and Paul are about the money, and have always been (well, sex too at least for Gene) Congratulations! Yes, and by the way it’s the year 2014. And I have other news for you – the world is round, not flat.
All joking aside, I still wouldn’t be surprised to see the original four there. Who knows what to believe from the KISS camp.
