As previously reported (read all the details here), Sammy Hagar has recorded a new single, titled, Encore, Thank You, Goodnight, inspired by his former Van Halen bandmate, Eddie Van Halen.
The video for the song has been released today, and can be viewed below.
The song was reportedly inspired by a dream “…and is my final bow to that part of my life,” says Hagar. “…It’s not meant to be anything more than a thank-you — with love, with respect.”
Encore, Thank You, Goodnight. features Hagar on vocals, Michael Anthony on bass, Joe Satriani on guitar and Kenny Aronoff on drums.

I actually like this, I was expecting some serious Velveeta, but I think it’s pretty well done, all things considered.
RIP to one of the GOATS, Mr. EVH, wished I had a chance to meet you.
Even at 77, Hagar can still deliver! And he and the band delivered big time on this tribute to EVH!
Muy bien
Respectfully, I disagree with most of the commenters. The song wasn’t as bad as I anticipated, but I wouldn’t say it’s good either. The guitar intro was gratuitous and self-indulgent. The main song is ok, at best. Where it drowned in Velveeta (thank you, Dana!) was the “Eddie” chants. Overall, is the song bad? No, not really. But I have no reason to ever listen to it again.
That is fair, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Unless, it is a negative one, about John Sykes (I still cannot believe he is gone), that is where I draw the line. Just kidding…sort of 😉
Great song! Lots of Sammy haters around and that’s too bad. Please tell me someone else in Rock that has accomplished what he has…. I know. You can’t.

Ramit, Sammy Hagar is indeed a great/successful businessman (unlike Gene $immon$), an accomplished musician (performer, writer, vocalist, guitarist), a successful artist (involved in many bands/projects, actively touring, etc), and based on my observations he seems like a nice person with an outgoing personality who could be fun to hang with, BUT……he aired dirty laundry to the public, and IMO, “family” doesn’t EVER do that, no matter the situation or forum. And I just read a recent interview of Sammy and he started to “bag” about Alex Van Halen. That’s unnecessary.
I don’t know if that’s Alex’s issue with Sammy, no matter how great a guy/musician Sammy may be, but maybe it’s enough for Alex to “ghost” Sammy. God forgives, but maybe Alex Van Halen doesn’t…..
