As previously reported (read all the details here), Sammy Hagar has recorded a new single, titled, Encore, Thank You, Goodnight, inspired by his former Van Halen bandmate, Eddie Van Halen.
The video for the song has been released today, and can be viewed below.
The song was reportedly inspired by a dream “…and is my final bow to that part of my life,” says Hagar. “…It’s not meant to be anything more than a thank-you — with love, with respect.”
Encore, Thank You, Goodnight. features Hagar on vocals, Michael Anthony on bass, Joe Satriani on guitar and Kenny Aronoff on drums.

Not until recently I found out how popular Sammy was as a solo artist. I was a kid when I Can’t Drive 55 came out, then he joined VH soon after…but I follow sites that show Billboard charts throughout the years, and surprised Sammy was on a lot of these. I really didn’t know he was so huge. Good for him…plus, how many singers still sound as good as he does at his age? Almost no one.
Dana, do you think Sammy deserves his own solo entry in the R&R Hall of Fame?
I do! 100%!! Hagar totally deserves to be in the RRHOF as a solo artist as well!
Great question, MM,
I have to admit, that I do not know much about Hagar‘s solo catalog, outside of VOA. However, he should get something, for just being in the business for so long, consistently working, and continuing to sell both music, and concert tickets, up to the present day.
That written, I must confess, that I do not know, what his overall sales, as a solo artist is, compared to someone, such as Ozzy. I would imagine, that Ozzy has been a far more successful solo artist, than Hagar, and deserved to be inducted, far sooner than he was, but what else is new?
The Shlock N’ Roll Hall of Shame is an abject disgrace. Perhpas, Hagar is better off not being inducted in that joke of an institution, emphasis on institution.
I just watched the actual video on YouTube, amazing genuine energy! Nothing but respect for EVH!
It’s posted here, as well, in the latest Hagar news story.
I too was expecting worse and was pleasantly surprised, especially loved Joe’s guitar work.
Should have had Wolfie on the track too.
