QUESTION OF THE WEEK: WHAT WAS THE FIRST ROCK POSTER YOU PUT UP IN YOUR ROOM?

I think it might have been a door poster of Jon Bon Jovi?

However, long before the official posters were acquired, I already had pages from magazines, taped to my walls.

Back in the day, many magazines had official pictures, that were meant to be “ripped out” and displayed. So, going on that premise, I think a picture of Vince Neil, from the Shout At Devil, might have been the first.

Of course, I still had some of my tween, and teen pictures up from magazines such as 16 . So, technically my real first poster, was of actor C. Thomas Howell (who played Ponyboy in The Outsiders). I loved him-LOL!

Just for giggles, let me see if I can find it….found it. OMG, memories.

  1. The first rock poster I put up in my room was the KI$$ “Alive!” poster. I won it a the County Fair throwing darts. The second poster I put up was Ace Frehley, Love Gun era, with his smoking Les Paul guitar. I thought that poster was so cool looking when I was a teenager…..and I still think it’s one of the best pics ever captured in rock and roll.

    1. My wife got me a framed photo of that iconic Ace shot for Christmas 2024 as a surprise. It is centered on my Kiss wall in my personal rock n roll hall of fame!

  2. it was Kiss on those light boxes circa Love Gun…fold in poster in a magazine that I got and taped the back of it on the creases because it was going to tear; it was already worn out when I found it…and I can’t believe I remember that.

  3. wish i could put up a pic, but my first poster was Christina Applegate, the classic photo of her holding the hawk and snake. I know its not a band but by god is that my favorite poster I ever had, and she LOOKS METAL in that pic so I say it passes…!!!

    1. Michael,

I probably saw that image, back in the day, but did not remember it. Yes, even though she is not a musician, I would count that as “metal” iconography.

Also, as a heterosexual woman, I must admit, Applegate‘s face looks very pretty, in that picture. Of course, I tend to admire the Victoria Secrets Models, far more, but she was definitely attractive.
