QUESTION OF THE WEEK: IN HONOR OF COLUMBUS DAY, WHO ARE SOME YOUR FAVORITE ITALIAN MUSICAL ARTISTS?

I must confess, I am an Italophile. I love their beautiful country, their food, their art, fashion, etc.

Rock: It used to be Jon Bon Jovi, but I have to think about this one now, since he hasn’t been a true rocker in quite awhile. Honorable mention as a guitar virtuoso: Joe Satriani.

Pop artist: Hands down Madonna.

Crooner: Frank Sinatra (Honorable mention: Dean Martin)

Opera singer: Luciano Pavarotti

  1. DIO…hello? for f’s sake man, it’s Ronnie and pass the pasta and tha joint…but seriously, Mauro Giuliani; one of the first to compose Classical music for the guitar, whose contribution to music cannot be understated…and Ronnie, course….wow, man…wow

    1. wait…that’s “overstated” not “understated” …I am blaming the Dio thing …LOL

    1. It’s all good, many Jews and Italians tend to intermarry, and when I grew up in Brooklyn, that is who lived side-by-side: Matzo Balls and Meatballs. LOL!!

      Again, I am Italaphile. 🙂

    2. Tasker, I really wish Chris DeGarmo was back with Queensryche rather than being a pilot. The band isn’t the same without him. I completely tuned out of Queensryche when DeGarmo left the band….he took the riffs with him.

    3. This is true. My wife’x mother was a high holiday Jew and her father a southern Italian by way of Calabria. Bellisimo-Mazel Tov!

  2. Little Steven-Steven Van Zant of the E-street band is Italian. Bruce is as well.

These guys are Italian-Americans: Joe Bonamassa, Joe Satch, Nikki Sixx and Steven Tyler. Mike Portnoy, as is John Petrucci. Frank Bello and Joey Belladonna, too.

    1. His Mom’s name is Leone which is normally considered Italian. Yet, not his case.
