One word: No.

  1. Hahahaha HAAAA… One word: no. Such a great answer. I don’t usually prefer it. Sometimes, but not like Bon Jovi or Europe. Piano is acceptable. Many songs have been bigger sounding due to it. But the whole super commercial keyboard crap? No way. God Of Thunder has a sinister synth on the backing track. That’s really cool. Jon Lord/Deep Purple? Oh, hell yes. But that’s about it.

    1. For God of Thunder, I think you are referring to that harpsichord chording in the chorus….yes, very Gothic and cool. I like the contrast of keyboards in heavy, hard music…it’s a nice contrast, and can elevate the material into a more sophisticated sound. I like the added dimension; so very welcome to my ears…just has to be done right….

    2. you probably are aware of this too: Bob Ezrin played grand piano chords under the guitar power chords on Destroyer to give it more punch, but on Double Platinum, it sounds like Sean Delaney took them out, which I prefer in that case…Double Platinum is my favorite Kiss record…I like the weird fade outs and how the songs work together on it…I think that record really captures the magic of that band

  2. I general, no, I do not like keyboards. However…..

I like a band for its sound. When that sound changes, so might my feelings towards that band. Bands like Children of Bodom, Rainbow, and Deep Purple have always had keyboards as an integral part of their sound, and I love them. Van Halen changed their sound when they added keyboards….I did not like it.

    1. I knew many people would cite Don Airey (Mr. Brownstone), Deep Purple and Rainbow, but even in those cases, I would enjoy these songs far more without keyboards/organs.

No offense to David Bryan, but I always fast forward his self indulgent Bon Jovi intros.

  3. It depends, keyboards wouldn’t work with a band like AC⚡️DC, but for most other bands I’m ok with the keyboards, as long as they don’t overpower the guitars, bass, and the drums. Prime example, Deep Purple wouldn’t be Deep Purple without Jon Lords mastery on the keys! I can’t ever imagine listening to Highway Star or Space Truckin’ without the keyboards! Don Airey is a great keyboardist as well, but IMO Jon Lord was the king!
