port, shee, macalpine On September 3rd, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Live In Tokyo by Portnoy Sheehan MacAlpine Sherinian on DVD, Blu-ray, 2CD and digital audio and video formats.

Live In Tokyo was filmed/recorded on November 14th, 2012 at Zepp Tokyo. This 95-minute concert is the first release of material from the PSMS supergroup, and it showcases a wide range of instrumental performances from each of the members’ careers and collaborations. Wider fanbases of Dream Theater, Mr. Big and Black Country Communion will definitely stand up and take notice. Drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, The Winery Dogs), bassist Billy Sheehan (Talas, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth), guitarist Tony MacAlpine and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Black Country Communion, Dream Theater) brought their collective strengths to Japan this past fall. The result was a 16-track deep cornucopia of the members’ individual highlights. The group unleashed a fierce storm of sonic musicianship on songs such as Shy Boy from Sheehan’s band Talas, MacAlpine’s The Stranger, Sherinian’s Apocalypse 1470 B.C. and Dream Theater’s A Change Of Seasons: The Crimson Sunrise. The DVD and Blu-ray also offer an exclusive peek at this production with a behind-the-scenes featurette.

  2. Wow, most of comentaries are like they arent a supergroup or about egos or whatever, in conclusion for you DT, Liquid tension experiment, Planet x, Tony Macalpine, etc = boring and Ego Inflating music, any fan of any member of this group appreciate this stuff. Also I dont understand the meaninig of supergroup for the most of the people who commented, Probably for you Supergroup = Supercommercialgroup or superpopulargroup because you are based on the commercial succes of the members.

    1. Wow, if you guys don’t like this style of music, then listen to something else. These guys are good players and I think there is a lot of melody happening. Seems like most I’ve read here is about popularity, being popular doesn’t make you good. Several artist that made it mainstream are not very good, they are good because the industry rammed their mess down our throats and there is a lot of money behind them. Why is it that a jazz or classical player can play a lot of notes and no one whines, but these guys that have a huge role ck element gets slammed? Why does people think writing good songs means playing slow or bluesy! First of all, songs are with vocals, these tunes are compositions. Compositions are mainly for people to think outside the box, it’s for intelligent listeners. If you want to hear the same three chord progressions, then listen to that, there is nothing wrong with it, I like that music as well. But when I’m in certain moods, I love listening to this music. In fact I write music similar to this, I only wished I had the chops these guys have. I’m more laid back, but that’s only because I can’t be as aggressive as these guys, that’s ok also, I have my own voice and so should you. Stop bashing people, it’s art. They happen to need more paint brushes and colors than most, so if you don’t like it, turn the channel. How would you feel if people bashed you? I bet most that says nasty things here probably can’t play very well.
