Mötley Crüe has released an official statement regarding guitarist Mick Mars announcing that he is retiring from touring:
“While change is never easy, we accept Mick’s decision to retire from the band due to the challenges with his health. We have watched Mick manage his Ankylosing Spondylitis for decades and he has always managed it with utmost courage and grace.
To say “enough is enough” is the ultimate act of courage. Mick’s sound helped define Mötley Crüe from the minute he plugged in his guitar at our very first rehearsal together. The rest, as they say, is history. We’ll continue to honor his musical legacy. |
We will carry out Mick’s wish and continue to tour the world as planned in 2023. No doubt will it take an absolutely outstanding musician to fill Mick’s shoes so we are grateful that our good friend, John 5 has agreed to come on board and join us moving forward. We’ll see all you Crüeheads out on the road.” Vince, Tommy & Nikki” |
Guitarist John 5’s statement reads, “I’m honored to carry on Mick’s legacy and am looking forward to playing these songs.”
Mötley Crüe recently announced another leg of their co-headlining tour with Def Leppard, which is slated to cover Latin America and Europe from February through July of 2023, please go to motley.com for more details.

I can’t think of a better guitarist than John 5 to fill in for Mick on the road!
John 5 is a super guitarist and, IMO, capable of playing anything……but I think Motley Crue is dead without Mick Mars. There is no more Motley Crue. Motley Crue was as much the four individuals/personalities as it was the music.
I hear ya Rattle, but John 5 is one of those exceptional musicians that can fit in with anybody, even the Crue!
Imagine what this band could do with a singer who could, you know, actually sing!
Can they retire that idiot Tommy Lee instead???
LOL!!! Aww, I like Lee, but you get no arguments from me, that he can act like an idiot.
I thought we got rid of these guys about 8 years ago with their farewell tour! Either put out a good new album or go away at this point. The Saints of LA sucked! That was put out about 15 years ago and their last release besides the Madonna song that Madonna should be angry about! There has been no creativity in this band in a while but they keep touring for their lifestyle bills. I could see a few years of writers block but these guys have been dragging this out for over a decade.
George,
It’s really a double edged sword, because the demand for new material from most older artists, is really not there. I cannot speak for the Stones, nor Paul McCartney, but I am sure whatever new music they release, is not selling the way their older music did, and still does.
If there was no interest in nostalgia, then tours like “The Stadium Tour,” would not have been a commercial success, nor would AC/DC’s “Back In Black” album, continue to sell copies to this day.
It comes down to supply and demand. If the interest isn’t really there for new music, let alone GOOD music, then what is the incentive?
