MEGADETH RELEASE SECOND SINGLE, “I DON’T CARE,” FROM THEIR FORTHCOMING FINAL ALBUM

Megadeth, share the music video for the band’s new song, I Don’t Care, from their forthcoming self-titled final album, watch it below.

Frontman Dave Mustaine says about the anthemic I Don’t Care, “How many times have you wanted to say this to someone? I know you want to! Deep down inside, if we had the balls, we would tell more people ‘I don’t care’ more often.”

Musically, Mustaine explains, “Part of the main riff in this track had been floating around in my head since we did [2022’s] The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!, so I was pumped to start recording I Don’t Care for this LP. I really love the guitar nuances in the track. There is the main rhythm riff, next, a very deliberate down-picking part, next, the octave chords with jump picking on octave notes (while still down-picking!). And the soloing and back and forth between me and Teemu [Mäntysaari] is magnificent.”

I Don’t Care is the second single from Megadeth‘s upcoming self-titled album, due on January 23rd, 2026. It will be released via Mustaine‘s Tradecraft imprint on Frontiers Label Group‘s new BLKIIBLK label. Listen to the premiere single, Tipping Point, here.

  1. I think this song is pretty good! While not thrash, I liked it! Proof that Mustaine can still deliver and he’s going out with a “bang”. IMO, the other “Big 4” band that begins with the letter “M” should be going out since their heart died over 30 years ago.

    1. You loved Metallica and you’re upset with them that they evolved and sold out.

Is this how you feel Mr. Rattlehead? Cheers

Btw, I’ll get to see Megadeth one more time next September in LA opening for Maiden. You going to that event?

\m/ thrash is a way of live.

    2. Tasker, you are correct. I am not happy that Metallica is no longer a thrash heavy metal band. Heck, IMO, they aren’t even a heavy metal band anymore. They stopped being a heavy metal band with the release of the “Blah-k album”, the biggest commercial sellout in heavy metal history. I don’t hear the complex riffs, galloping riffing, or intricate rhythms of the guitar. And the drumming is no longer aggressive and powerful, and it lacks rapid fire drum fills. I find their music, since the “Blah-k album”, to be boring and uninspired. I still love their first four albums, and the two ballads on the “Blah-k album”, but that’s it…..Maybe their heavy metal heart is gone, maybe they are after the money, IDK, but it’s not my Metallica anymore….

Yes, I I will be at the Maiden gig in September. Going to the Saturday, September 26th show. Got “floor”, or general admission, tickets. Which date are you attending?

    3. They’ve evolved to mega stardom and there’s been no turning back since Puppets. I agree, they’re no longer a true thrash band. They’re also no Iron Maiden. Still, I personally love their evolution with the exception of Jason leaving. Nothing against Rob T., he’s a great player and seems to fit the part. The cash they raking in is unbelievable. They run a close 2nd to KISS with endless merch they push out. It cheapens them. Sadly, they got their hooks in me since 88′ with 35 shows thus far in the US & Canada. I’ve have over 125 t-shirts, 40 posters, bobbles and bric-a-brac that just collects dust. The best thrash that still out there by any measure is Slayer, Kreator, Exodus, Death Angel and Testament, as far as the original. Of course there’s many more.

Good to hear you’ll be a the LA show. Right now I have floor-ga Friday nite and hope to win FTTB thru the IMFanClub. On the fence about Saturday. Yet, if I can, I’ll let ya know somehow and we can meet up. I’ll becoming in from NW Oregon.

    4. Tasker, I hate what Metallica has become since the “Blah-k album” and I’ll continue to poke fun at them whenever I get the chance. I know they have an audience for their 1991 music to present day, and good for them, but I’m not a fan. Like Dana always says “To each their own”. ….I did see the “Blah-k album” tour, 9th row floor seats! I’ve seen them about 10 times live, including two small club shows with Cliff Burton and the “Big 4” show in California (BTW, IMO, how Anthrax is “Big 4” is known only to God :o) . The only “merch” I’ve collected of Metallica is some of their vinyl output. Some of the unique items I have are a “glow in the dark” 12″ promo version of “Fade to Black”, a still sealed French 7″ of “The Unforgiven” on clear vinyl with a tattoo, picture discs of their first three albums, Megaforce releases of “Kill Em All” and “…Lightening”, and all three Metal Massacre I compilation albums with their song “Hit the Lights”. I also have a few sealed cassette copies of their “No Life Til Leather” demos that were released about ten years ago on Record Store Day, in addition to various bootleg recordings with Dave Mustaine. Since I am a “completest” I have all their albums, but I NEVER listen to anything after the “Blah-k album”. If I remember correctly, I think “Load”, “St. Anger”, etc…are unopened! :o). I guess I buy them hoping Metallica surprises me with a “return to the 80’s” thrash album….well, I’m still waiting! :o)

I agree Metallica are like KI$$ from a merch standpoint, but I think a big difference is Metallica truly care about their fans. KI$$, on the other hand, only care about the fans’ money. It’s awesome to see what Metallica does for their fans…total respect for their work in this area.

Yeah, it would be awesome if we could meet up at the Maiden gig, if you get tickets for the Saturday show. We could probably ask Dana to put us in touch with each other via email to have that conversation “offline”.

I love all the thrash bands you mention, in addition to Overkill, Forbidden, Dark Angel, Destruction, and Flotsam and Jetsam. Thrash is my favorite sub genre of heavy metal, with Slayer being my favorite thrash band.

“Adrenaline starts to flow. You’re thrashing all around. Acting like a maniac…..WHIPLASH!” \m/

    5. Hey Rattlehead. Heck of a collection you’ve got there of rare vinyl’s and cassettes. Total respect. You reminded me that I do I have some vinyl by the guys but it’s stuff they released over the last 25 years, like the limited edition Metallica first 5 albums with the Creeping Death picture disc-unopened. I’ve always wanted the KEA devil picture disc. Never got my hands on that. Sounds like you might have it. Nice that you were 9th row for TBA Tour. I saw that Tour 4 times. 20th row in Knoxville, nose bleeds in Maryland at the Cap. Ctr. during two nites of their “Evening w/ Metallica” run. Then RFK, DC in the pit close to the rail for the opening night of the GnR-Metallica w/ Faith No More Tour. One of the best shows of my life. I, too, was at the Big 4 show in the Inland Empire. Pit, front and center for part of the day. Another great event. I was able to see the Yankee Stadium run as well. Slayer was insane there. As they were in Bob Hope land. I’m with you on Anthrax. Crowd pleasers for sure. Charlie is a beast on the drums. Wished I’d seen them w/ John Bush and I wouldn’t have objected to Testament or Exodus.

Metallica and their mgmt. Q-Prime have done a good job making their fans feel welcome. While you and I grew up during the days where James Hetfield would openly curse at and give the audience& fans shit-always thought he was funny as hell for doing it- It’s been harder to embrace the “ Metallica Family” speech that happens at every show since the early 2000’s. Still, they are great to us long time fans. While I’ve yet to meet them personally, I have won Snake pit passes, gone to an exclusive event in Santa Monica and won tickets to the 30th Anniversary shows along with celebrating NYE in Vegas w/ a 3+ hour show. Made lots of /vv\etal friends as well. It’s all been through their club, and I I enjoy it for the camaraderie and early ticket sales, and it feels like they care and let you behind the scene. They’ve also become good samaritans of worthy causes.

Were you by chance at the Battle of San Bernadino Sept. 2013 w/ Maiden, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament and Sabaton w/Overkill & Warbinger second stage? That was a great event.

Btw, very cool that you saw Randy & Cliff live, especially the small shows. I’m a ’72 kid and I’m guessing you might be two or three years older. I didn’t start to listen to Sabbath until I was 14, then Ozzy & Metallica when I was 15. First metal show was in ’88 RFK Stadium, DC Monster’s Of Rock: VH, Scorps, Dokken, Metallica and Kingdom Come.

Keep on poking fun at ‘Tallica, they deserve it and I enjoy it. I’ll let you know via one of the threads come May if I’m able to do the 2nd nite in LA. We can share a pint or something and further discuss while the Blahhh-k album does or doesn’t suck. \m/ Cheers & Up the Irons. \m/

    6. Tasker, i have two versions of the KEA devil shaped picture disc…..I have a cut shaped version and an uncut version, as well as an original Creeping Death picture disc. I, too, saw the Metallica – G n R tour, but Body Count was on the bill, not Faith No More. That was my only time ever seeing G n R…IMO, the most overrated band in rock history. The only Anthrax album I like is their first album, “Fistful of Metal”. I saw them touring for this album with their original singer, Neil Turbin. Saw them in a small, 400 capacity hall, opening for the great NWOBHM band Raven. I agree with you, Charlie Benante is a beast on the drums, WAY better than Lars Ulrich. Lars greatest contribution to Metallica is his music business sense and his music connections.

Metallica is a “family friendly” band, kinda like the way KI$$ changed when they became so commercialized around 1977, right around the release of the “Love Gun” album. I guess this appeals for wider audiences, but it’s not very rock and roll. Oh well, I guess that what management promotes to these bands, and the bands listen cuz that’s what brings in the most money. It’s a business, I get it, but still…….

Yes, I was at that San Bernardino show! It was a great show! I enjoyed all the bands, except for Sabaton. IMO, Sabaton should have been on the smaller second stage, and Overkill should have been on the big stage. Better yet, Sabaton shouldn’t have even been on the bill, and should have been replaced by Slayer, Exodus or Armored Saint! :o)

In total, I saw Cliff perform with Metallica a total of three times. The third time was when Metallica opened up for Ozzy Osbourne while Ozzy was touring for “The Ultimate Sin” album and Metallica was touring for the “Master…” album. “Master…” is my favorite Metallica album, and the song “Battery” is my favorite Metallica song. That song just crushes!

I love your passion for Metallica. You are willing to travel distances to see them perform and you are actively involved in their happenings. It’s awesome to see that passion because you care. Keep it up, cuz I know the band appreciates it, and all that its fans do, to support the band and you all being part of the “Metallica family”.

Yes, let me know if you’re able to do the 2nd nite in Los Angeles. Would be great to meet up. And then I can tell you why the “Blah-l album” sucks….sucks bad! :o)

    7. Mr. R, Hard to go wrong w/ MOP & Battery. Some great down picking by James on that song. Great opener for what is arguably their best album. I go between Sanitarium & The Thing That Should Not Be being my favourite. Thingy has to be one of their heaviest tracks. Leper & Disposal are just…fuk’n awesome, whole album is killer. I came up on $5.98EPGarages Days Re-Visited & AJFA. AJFA is my favourite album w/ Harvester of Sorrow & Eye of the Beholder as my top choices.

Those are some great shows you witnessed. I really enjoyed Overkill that day in that weird side stage they had in San Bernie. Their drummer was brutal on the double bass, they really got the day primed. That whole day was great, I was in the pit and Maiden put on a fantastic show. Testament & Megadeth shredded as well. Testament seems to always get the shortest set time on those multi band tours. Same thing happened when they toured with Slayer’s 2019 farewell w/ LOG. Slayer would’ve been a cool edition, although I did enjoy the big production of the Swedish Sabaton. Viking Power Metal is what it’s suppose to be. Funny seeing them all glittered up bouncing around, what a gimmick. I’ll take Amon Amarth any day for my metal Viking fix. \M/

Keep those KEA picture discs safe now. LA will be awesome. Up the Irons Cheers-Brent

  2. I don’t know why I’m really motivated to hear and possibly purchase this “final vinyl”. The two released singles aren’t groundbreaking but they do have an appeal to my ears. I remember buying Countdown when it was released. I liked it on first listen and was already tired of it on the 3rd. I hate it when my albums do that to me get boring fast even though there full of good songs.
Hey that’s a good topic Dana : Classic hard rock metal albums that haven’t held up well and don’t listen to anymore
