KISS TO PLAY LIVE SHOW AT THE TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL AFTER DOCUMENTARY DEBUT
According to Page Six of the New York Post, KISS will play live at the Tribeca Film Festival following a screening of a new documentary about the band.
The ’70s icons will play a special live show at an as-yet undisclosed location after part one of the A&E film Biography: KISStory debuts.
Founding members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons will perform with current band members Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer.
The two-part film will then air on A&E over two nights, June 27th and 28th.
The film is directed by D.J. Viola and chronicles five decades of KISS. The film features Stanley and Simmons, along with Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, manager Doc McGhee and producer Bob Ezrin.
A press release on the film, and the live Tribeca show, did not mention KISS’ other two original members, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.
The KISS film is one of a number of music projects screening at Tribeca this year, including documentaries on Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, Blondie, Scandinavian pop act A-ha and Rick James.
In the meantime, recent reports have said that Netflix is nearing a deal to make a KISS biopic. Deadline reported that the proposed project, Shout It Out Loud, would include the cooperation of Stanley and Simmons.
The Tribeca festival begins June 9th, with screenings at a number of outdoor venues, including Brookfield Place, Pier 57 Rooftop and The Battery in Hudson Yards. Last year’s event, normally held in April, was canceled due to coronavirus.
The festival was founded by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal after the 9/11 attacks in 2001 as a way to support Lower Manhattan.
KISS, a New York band, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
Hire the director and writer for Straight Outta Compton and do the Kiss movie that way and it would be awesome…but they’ll probably phone it in like the Dirt was.
