Brian Hiatt of Rolling Stone reports:
Paul Stanley joined the latest episode of the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast to talk in depth about Kiss’ just-announced End of the Road world tour (which they’ve said will mark the end of their touring career) and much more. Highlights from the interview appear below.
On the End of the Road really being their farewell tour, as opposed to their 2000 tour being dubbed a “farewell tour.”:
“Let’s put it into perspective and try to at least get a sense of what’s different. The farewell tour took place 19 years ago. The farewell tour was at the end of the time that we had brought back the two original members [guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss] and it was such drudgery and so difficult and so unhappy that it just seemed like ‘let’s put the horse down.’ And after the tour was over, it didn’t take me very long to realize I didn’t want to say goodbye to the band; I wanted to say goodbye to two members. So that was the differences. We’ve had 19 years of the band. The band has never been better, happier… But with all that in mind, it’s time to think about an end.”
Discussing the possibility of guest appearances by former members:
“I really can’t say. This will be a celebration of KISS and not any individual lineup or any individual members. I wouldn’t rule anything out but it’s not the crux of what we’re doing… and I’m not being coy either. I don’t want to mislead anybody, really that’s not something that’s been given a lot of thought at this point, the majority of our time has gone into what is the stage going to be, what is the show going to be, and we’re actually in the midst of toying with setlists now.”
Stanley responded to the odd swipe Simmons took at him, regarding his singing voice, onstage in Australia:
“Look, Gene and I have been together, I think, 47 years or something around that. He’s out having a great time. He’s doing these – most of them are free concerts, and when he charges tickets they don’t sell a lot of tickets –and I’m sure he’s trying to keep it light for the couple hundred people or whatever, and that’s great. I was just with Gene, obviously, day before yesterday and we have a bond that is enviable…You do come to terms over time with your own mortality, and every singer that I know, probably the first thing we all say to each other is, you know, ‘is this becoming tougher for you?’.. I’ve been doing a lot recently to make sure that my voice is in great form. [But] if you want to hear me sound like I did on KISS Alive!, then put on KISS Alive! “

Unless they got it from the tapes, maybe they did…I think I heard Gene saying something about that…I hope that’s what you got….let me know how they sound…do you have the original vinyls too?
Yes I do! I got them for my 12th birthday back in Roctober ’78! These supposed to arrive on Roctober 19th, the day before my next KISS “Rock And Roll Party” on the 20th, which is also the day before my next birthday! My original vinyls are kind of warped, after all they’re 40 years old! I also have the solos on cassette, 8-track, and CD of course, as I do on most of my KISS albums. You should know me by now, Shannon, I’m not just a KISS fan, I’m a KISS fan-addict!! And my wife calls me a KISSAHOLIC!! 😉
– however, even I wouldn’t pay $900.00 for a pair of Paul Stanley’s Puma sneakers! Even I’m not that Krazy! Besides, my wife would kill me! 😉 LOL!!!
Doug, Paul made those shoes just over 100 bucks; pretty reasonable.
I knew it! And I fell for it! I thought $900.00 for a pair of shoes was Krazy, even for KISS! (Although it wouldn’t Shock Me) My wife just told me that because she already ordered me a pair for my upcoming birthday, SURPRISE!! She had to know I would find out eventually about the real price, when she asked me how I found out, I just told her I heard it from some clown online, 😉 LOL!!!
Very clever, D. 😉
D 🙂
You have a charmed life, Doug.
I just watched some of the clips of Paul from a few months ago in Madrid singing Love Gun & I was Made For Loving You.
Good lord. People actually pay money to listen to that? No wonder Gene called him out in Australia. What an embarrassment. I just can’t stop laughing. I bet Tommy tells him how great he did after the show. There is a huge difference between not singing like he used to and this travesty.
I prefer to remember him as the great front man he once was and not this hot garbage.
I honestly believe that was the driving force to not perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He would have been exposed as having “lost it.”
Not sure why Gene took a jab at Paul’s voice ( maybe they had a argument earlier in the week on the phone )
So Paul takes a jab at attendance figures for Gen’s solo shows ?
I was at the one here in St.Paul last year when Ace was a guest.
Gene still sounds incredible compared to Paul.
The promoter that was used for these shows – “children something” was terrible !
If his shows would have been promoted properly he would have had better turnouts .
Probably same numbers as Paul’s solo shows in 89 and Live To Win tour’s.
Personally as a fan for 43 yrs. I would rather go see Paul, Gene and, Ace solo than with Kiss.
As far as Ace being a guest during part of the show where Tommy has the make-up on , I don’t get where Ace’s head is at on that one unless he is just looking for $$$$$.
Makeup Kiss 2000 farewell tour RIP
