It has been reported that Judas Priest has been passed over, once again, for induction into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. The band were on the ballot for induction this year, but failed to receive enough votes to make the class of 2020.
In light of the latest snub, guitarist Richie Faulkner tweeted back to a fan who wrote. “WAIT. Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails and Biggie Smalls BEFORE @judaspriest in #RockHall2020? How do I explain this to my child if I don’t understand it? #MetalForever #HeavyMetal” Then Richie replied, “Doesn’t make sense does it kenny? Hence why the rock hall holds no credibility for me and never has RHRF DOTF”
He continued in a separate tweet, “I’ve said it before but 50 years in and still making music, touring the globe to the best fans in the world is the biggest accolade I can think of. These institutions are founded on what these guys helped create and to not be included is a total joke. I have spoken haha”
He added, “If you wanna call it the ROCK hall, then you should START with a healthy foundation of ROCK (in all its forms) to build on. The founding brothers and sisters that created and developed our beloved style of music and aided it’s evolution. Otherwise, what does it mean?”
Even though artists are eligible for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single, iconic hard rock and metal bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, have yet to be recognized by the institution, whom also dragged their heels when it came to inducting Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and KISS. Deep Purple’s induction was aided by Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, who voiced his disdain that Metallica got in before the band whom influenced them.

If they want people to go to their stupid museum, they should induct actual rock acts. Also, I really don’t know T-Rex. All I know is that it’s mentioned in the song “All the Young Dudes” if you google T-Rex you get more hits for the dinosaur. a lot of the members of the inductees and some of inductees are dead.
Marc Bloan and T Rex were a favorite of many bands, including Def Leppard. Leppard covered Rex’s 2Oth Century Boy for their Yeah album. Here is T Rex’s version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQw3LBl2eEU and Def Leppard’s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgHNv6QzZMc
Honestly, I’m not at all surprised that Judas Priest got snubbed. Keep in mind that the RRHoF was formed by Jann Wenner and Dave Marsh. While they may not be as involved (or involved at all) as they used to be, their influence is certainly still there. So there’s a lot of personal tastes and politics involved. If Rob Halford threw fabulous parties in Westhampton every summer attended by Roger Waters, Jon Bon Jovi, and the Clintons, perhaps Priest would’ve been inducted already.
As for people who are offended that the RRHoF includes rappers and disco artists, get over it. The organization is trying to get as many people to attend its museum in Cleveland as possible and get as high ratings as possible for the HoF telecast on HBO. It’s not an institution for aging rock stars. It’s a business that’s trying to remain viable.
I hate to break it to everyone, but now that Whitney Houston has been inducted, don’t be too surprised if in the coming years, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Enrique Iglesias, Backstreet Boys, NSync, Britney Spears, and other artists aren’t nominated/inducted. They’re all nearing the 25-year eligibility mark.
All that said, it’s criminal that Pat Benatar, Peter Frampton, Carly Simon, Foreigner, Kansas, Styx, Billy Squier, and countless other deserving artists haven’t been inducted yet.
Anyone with a decent moral fiber would never invite the likes of Roger Waters, or the Clintons, to their parties, just sayin’…All hail the mighty Priest.
No problem with the disco artists, I love Donna Summer, KC & The Sunshine Band, really love disco/funk – Kool & The Gang, Earth Wind & Fire, etc., but I have a BIG problem with the rappers! And will NOT “get over it!” At least the disco artists sing, play instruments, create most of their own music & lyrics, there is nothing creative about scratching records, sampling (or stealing) other people’s music, and babbling about your bitches and hoes! I’m all for Whitney Houston getting in, but no way she should’ve went in before Pat Benatar who has sold millions of albums, and influenced hundreds of REAL artists for over 40 years!
While I can see the need to attract more visitors, diluting the pool of inductees is not the answer. They could easily add a wing to the museum and dedicate it to rap or pop music and have there own inductees every year. By inducting the Madonna’s, Whitney Houston’s and rappers of this world they are only doing exactly what Richie Faulkner has stated…damaging their own credibility.
Hi King,
I think they diluted their reputation decades ago. It was the same for when the Grammy’s awarded Jethro Tull “Best Metal” performance.
D 🙂
Yes…absolutely disgusting….a total travesty!
The name should just be changed to The Popular Music Hall of Fame or something to that effect.
Really, guys like Miles Davis & Waylon Jennings I’m sure had some influence on rock music, but they are not people I would first think of for induction to a Rock hall of fame.
Also forget about this diversity nonsense, because when you look at it, there’s much diversity in the nominees that didn’t get in. Pat Benatar is obviously a woman in rock, Rob Halford is a gay man in rock and Phil Lynott was born of mixed parentage but that’s not why they should get in, rather it’s because they were widely influential and great artists.
Can’t forget the Dave Matthews Band even though I wouldn’t have voted them over others.
Moore, Tinsley, and Beauford are black and they were outstanding musicians.
Just my 2 or 3 cents.
Or call it what it is, The Rolling Stone Magazine Hall of Fame.
Yet another douche’ bag move from a bunch of elitist neophyte’s. Damn sad.
