Greg Prato for Ultimate Guitar spoke with The Kinks’ Dave Davies, portions of the interview appear below.
Ultimate Guitar: What are your thoughts on Van Halen‘s cover of You Really Got Me?
Dave Davies: When I first heard it, I didn’t like it. I thought was a bit too flash. But I got used to it, and all of the gesturing and posturing, which I thought was a bit silly.
But it was good. And I’m glad they did it. It was great for us.
Ultimate Guitar: Van Halen also covered a second Kinks song, Where Have All the Good Times Gone? Are you familiar with that version, too?
Dave Davies: Yeah, that was really good. I thought that was more complimentary. It’s a better version. I kind of laugh because it appeared to be a funny time: they call them heavy metal, and it was just a heavy song. Frustrated kids, y’know?
